(just trying to lighten the mood guys, so don't start grilling me on my tennis qualifications. All I've got to go on is showing up at just about every match, drawing conclusions from what I see, and a few encounters/conversations with the players and their families.)
That being said, it does seem to me that our girls aren't bad players. They all seem to have the same problem, which is that when they try to play aggressively, they all miss their shots by about 3 inches, over, and over, and over again. And our opponents know that, and take advantage of it.
Again, without knowing too much about it aside from my personal observations, it seems as though by the end of a season, with such a consistent problem amongst so many of our players, a decent coach would be able to correct it. Unless our girls are just uncoachable, who knows.
I think this is evidenced by someone like Sheri Olivier, who's great in doubles where the bigger court allows her to be more aggressive with hitting the angle shots. She has no problems keeping those balls in, but shrink the court a little, and all of a sudden her game seems to fall apart.
That's kinda what I meant about our girls being so close to being a good team, and by good team I meant top 20-25. Haven't really seen much improvement this season though, outside of Elze and Lauren.
