The team portion of the track and field national championship is determined by the accumulation of points from athletes who have qualified to participate in the national championship meet. So, teams like A&M, Arkansas, Florida State, etc. are favored to win team titles because they have many athletes that qualify for the national championship meet.

Every school that has even 1 athlete qualify in regionals or have an athlete whose prior times or distances met the automatic qualifying standards is technically "competing" in the championship.

As for which schools are really "competing", this thread from May 12 had the Ags women predicted to finish 2nd and the men 3rd.

I've seen the Ags predicted to win the women's title and the men 4th but I don't remember where that was.

When are the projections put out?

Does anyone know how many athletes we are sending?
