Before the internet beating of Sarah goes any further, read the excerpts from Croome's article. Anyone who has followed this team at all for the last four years knows that she is a good kid, but remember please that she is still just a kid. She messed up, but let's support a good Ag.

A&M's Ammerman thrilled to be in NCAA Tournament
Published Friday, December 04, 2009 6:05 AM
By RICHARD CROOME
richard.croome@theeagle.com

"This is something I've wanted since Day 1 when I stepped on campus, to get into the Tournament," Ammerman said. "Going through three selection shows without A&M going has been really hard. Actually seeing our name on the screen was pretty surreal and a very, very exciting moment for us."

Volleyball has been foremost on Sarah's mind nearly her entire life from the time she started watching both parents and her brother play at a high level. Her passion for the game grew out of seeing how much they enjoyed playing.

Sarah has carried that love and competitiveness over to A&M and coach Laurie Corbelli's program, where her diligent work ethic has earned her first-team All-Big 12 honors and berths on U.S. national teams.

"She's by far the player who most often comes to watch video, review scout sheets, ask for team meetings, ask for coaches meetings, ask for captain meetings," Corbelli said. "She's puts in a lot of extra time that is not asked of the players, and that's really special."

Friday's first-round match against Arizona will be Sarah's 112th start at A&M. On the all-time A&M list, she is third in career points with 1,665 and has 1,476 kills, one shy of fifth among Aggies. She needs three more digs to join the 1,000 club in that category.

So we learn only from the Arizona paper that she broke team rules!

Was she in uniform? Will she play today? Will she start?

My favorite player BUT she is not a kid! She is a senior AND Captain.

Big Jim, you're not paying attention. It was in the article on Aggie athletics.com. At 22 I guess you were perfect?

22 year olds are capable of not getting themselves suspended from the thing which apparently they've wanted "real bad" since they stepped foot on campus.

In other words she put other things AHEAD of her

ambition AND the team! What was that important?

What is the Captain and a Senior supposed to do - be a leader!

Olsen, Just so you know, go to the summaries of the articles on the home page. The Arizona paper says that she " broke the rules "!

Then go to the Aggieatletics article where it says " she was held out of the match "!

That says NOTHING!

I think we need to reserve all judgement, both of Sarah and Corbelli, until someone spills the beans on what actually happened. Corbelli is not an idiot and wouldn't suspend Ammerman unless she didn't have a choice. I'm really curious what Sarah had to do in order to get her self suspended a game.

If you really think about it, it is pretty obvious what happened. Try to list things that would have to be included in "team rules" and you are left with a very very short list.

Everything else eg. show up to practice on time, good attitude, etc. is all just common player etiquette.

I support Sarah, when you're good, you should be able to do what you want. It's simple supply and demand. Sarah supplies us with consistent points, and in return that performance demands special privileges.
This is Economics 101, I think coach must have fallen asleep during class that day..

I'm sorry, but this is just plain stupid. Ever heard of the "TEAM over me" concept? Nobody deserves special privileges. I don't care how good you are. This kind of attitude is selfish and would lead to division, jealousy, and bitterness on any team.

just to be clear. I support Sarah as well, but I don't believe she (or anyone else) should be able to do what she wants. I believe the team should come first. She messed up and paid the price. The rest is between her, LC and the team and is none of our business. Going forward our business should be to support the team (and Sarah) as best we can.

I'm guessing that Big Jim and I can agree on most of that!
TAMUmpower
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I know I am just joking, but the problem is that like you said the TEAM should come first, which is why the statement that Sarah payed the price is not true.

At the moment she is on a free vacation and all she has to do is stand up at the game. The TEAM is who had to pay the price, which is why I disagree with the punishment. As a coach I would believe that putting the TEAM first would involve helping them win the game,...which usually starts with putting your best players on the court.

You know I don't honestly care if a player needs to be "punished", but figure out a means to do it that doesnt involve affecting everyone else.

Would anyone use this sentiment if it were the football team? No, probably not. We'd be pissed off at our most important player screwing up our chances.

I still don't understand why we're expected to use kid gloves with these other non-revenue sports. It's like people pretend that they're more sensitive than football and basketball players. Maybe they are, who knows. But, I bet if we accuse them of being more sensitive, people will get on us too.

Obviously, Sarah has been a great player and leader for our team this season. Unfortunately, it is very disappointing that she would do something that was contrary to the best interests of the team. The word for that is selfish and that's not the trademark of a leader. However, I don't believe that one mistake should be allowed to ruin an otherwise distinguished career at A&M. Hopefully she will get a chance to play again and will make the most of the opportunity.

gimme a break- Jim49 wasn't saying anything disrespectful, uncalled for, or wrong. He just said the facts.

If she messed up, she messed up. He wasn't calling for her head. I get a little perturbed at the people who try to shoot the messenger, or label them in some way, when all they do is speak the truth.

If only there were some high-profile player in another sport that recently broke a team rule and was suspended from an important game . . . something to compare the treatment of the two players and the response by the general public . . .

She's a sr. and a team leader, finally in position to achieve her dream, and she breaks a team rule deserving of her sitting out the whole game.

Well, looks like Slammerman did exactly what she needed to do to make us not care about whatever she did wrong. Came in, played HUGE, and led us to the sweet 16. Well done Sarah, and well done Aggies!

Oh boy, what about t.u.....If we beat them, it would probably be one of the top 15 moments in Aggie non-revenue sports history, right?

If we go on to the Final Four or something like that, yes, it might be top ten.

I don't simply think Sweet 16 win over a #1 seed Longhorn team should get top ten moment billing.

At any rate, it'd be cool to see if we can gather a top ten list. I'll start off with what I view, atleast, as the recent, obvious members of the list.

For me, any list would start off with the men's 4x400 relay last year with the national title and chance at completing a historic double track national championship on the line.

In that same light, I'd think you've got to put the breaking of the 20 year old collegiate 4x100 record by the women earlier in the day on the list as well.

I think number two probably has to go to Justin Burgoon's 18th hole 125 yard shot from the rough to give the Aggies their first NCAA national title in 22 years.

Knock off a #1 seed after a fair number of people thought you weren't going to get in the tourney. That's top 10 when you factor overcoming expecations...

I'll also go ahead and stick up for my softball girls and throw out freshman Kelsey Spittler's 9th inning RBI triple to send A&M to the WCWS finals over #1 Florida in an elimination game after getting trounced 6-1 earlier in the day.

Edit- In light of the above post, let me make sure Megan Gibson's name gets mentioned here after she took over the season when we lost our All-American star pitcher and hitter.

I feel like it would have a shot, mostly because of who the opponent is and how highly the opponent is ranked.

At least in recent memory, what else goes on the list? Give them the 6 NC's from softball, golf, track, (Maybe Brunson's shot as #1??), baseball finishing #2 in 1989, Softball runner up in 2008, you could maybe argue that Christine Marshall making the U.S. Olympic team was huge (although if she had won gold, and swum on the finals relay, it would definitely be there, not to belittle her accomplishment or anything)...

I mean, I'm sure there's someone who's a better historian on Aggie Athletics prior to the recent era than me, but it at least would deserve consideration, no?

I know, they haven't won it yet, but before everyone jumps on me, I still think it's an interesting conversation to discuss the top 10-15 moments.

Lekner, exactly what do you mean by "not expect to get into the tourney"?

Before the year? When we went into the slump? Before we beat Mizzou?

At any rate, a win will be huge. But let's not get ahead of ourselves. We've still got some work to do.

I'm not a huge Corbelli fan, but it looks like she made it through Eco 102 with her decision to sit Ammerman. Maybe that's what the TEAM needed to see they were a team, and not just a bunch of women playing a game.

good job Anal!

This quote for LC kind of illustrates what I think about Sarah.

"I don't know that it's so much what we're able to do [that changes]. Sarah's a team captain, she's got four years of starting experience under her belt, and she's a court leader. So, I think more than anything, it was missing her leadership out on the court last night. To be able to pull that one out was really a huge boost for our team. Sarah was incredibly instrumental in that win as well, just being super supportive of the team in practice and everything else, just being a great teammate."

Not knocking any of the other "moments". All I'm saying is that when you think about where Volleyball's been the last few years and the opportunity next weekend...it just has the potential to really remake the program. And hardly anyone thought this was possible during the skid midseason.

That said, I'd have to say Women's Basketball has definitely offered up some moments the last few years. For me the Big 12 Championship was the moment when I knew we were for real. Soccer took down #1 UNC a few years ago in front of a record crowd. Softball's run to the WCWS without Amanda in the circle can't be overlooked. Spittler's hit against Florida was just amazing.
