We're ranked number 54 ranked we just lost to SMU...For a school with our resources this is unacceptable..thoughts?

They'll wait until the end of the year and evaluate everything, as the athletic department does every every year with every sport.

If he keeps on this track, sure, he'll be in some danger. But, they're not going to care what his ranking was on March 11th. It's all about where you finish.

SMU is ranked 22 so they're a decent team. That being said, Coach K should have been canned years ago.

SMU is ranked #33 after losing to t.u. lat week - we are 56, which has to be an all-time low, and it's probably going lower after this loss at home.

With the Big XII being as weak as it has been, we might not have been able to even MAKE the NCAAs with our typical 3rd place finish, but this year there are enough decent teams in the conference that we should be able to squeak in with a 9-2 conference record. Our 1-3 is great, just need some depth!

If we could figure out the bottom of the lineup and get 3 dubs to play better than the other night, we would be just fine. But trying to figure out the lineup order going into conference play may be too late.

he's protesting the loss to smu on the grounds that vankova shouldn't have played because she'd been injured and was just going to play a few games and then retire, therefore moving all the other players down the lineup. doubt it will be overturned but i guess it's worth a shot. personally i think he's reaching, but i appreciate that he's sticking up for his team.

You should read the blog that @txcollegetennis puts out. He makes a good point that it was a 5-2 match, kinda odd to protest a match that was never in doubt.

If he was as bad as some of you think, he would have been fired a long time ago.
just because you may play tennis doesn't mean you know how to coach/run a team any better. much like being an armchair QB.

Yeah, but as long as at least two players were slotted down where they shouldn't be, then he has as much of a case as if it was 4-3. Not saying it's going to pass, but the 5-2 score, to me at least, doesn't give him any less of a case.

Tell that to the football board...You assume to know something about my background in tennis...say I just played a little I could still correctly make the argument that Kleincecke needs to go...the guy is a hack and women's tennis will only get better once he steps down or is terminated.....you cannot not refute that...I guess since bryne never played or coach he can't make that decision either???

XIaggie, are you FTA's sock? you sound just like him. if you are, I'd like to say: "what's up dude? longtime no see." if you aren't, then ignore that last.
you try to use the football board as an example.....there's a reason it's called the zoo.

Aggie women outside the top 75. Behind Baylor, Texas, OU, Nebraska, ISU, OSU, and Colorado. Granted, these are early computer rankings and will fluctuate a great deal in the next couple weeks. But...still.

Wow, outside of the top 75. There is no way this isn't one of the 75 best teams in the country. No way! And it's only going to get worse if they lose to Arkansas. After that they have three very winable (and probably must-win) matches against the Kansas teams and Tech, then against no. 4 ND, and the Oklahoma teams. They need to go at least 4-3 over that stretch, they may be toast.

The Big 12 is very weak this year; after no. 1 Baylor, the next best team is tu at 32. We need to really make our mark in conference to get in.

and you're asking why he is a hack?
gobluwolverine
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I don't know if he's a hack, but I wonder if it's an issue of complacency. Too long at the same place? Maybe it's not his fault, but there needs to be a change to spark things up, light a fire, etc. I just can't come up with any other reason for a team to go downhill this badly when the only roster change was dropping the 9th best player and adding the second or third. A few nagging Injuries don't drop you from the 25th best team in the country to the 80th.

I don't know that it would work in tennis, you guys tell me, but in most sports, this is not an uncommon tactic. BK should be close to retirement soon anyways, no? IF this season keeps going how it is, I would expect a "resignation" at season's end. Hopefully we get it turned around and it isn't an issue, but it just feels like too much comfort to me.

This team hasn't been one of the 25 best in the country for the last two years, regardless of what the rankings said. Bobby is a very nice guy and most of the other coaches in the country respect him. They also don't fear him because they know he's not going to steal any top recruits and he's not going to out-coach them. IMO he doesn't have what it takes to recruit, develop, and coach the girls of this generation, and he doesn't have the drive to compete with these coaches. I truly hope that he can retire on his own terms, because he has been a great ambassador for the university. I also hope that it happens immediately at the conclusion of this season.

OU, OSU, and Tech all have new coaches who are bringing in kids that would play in the A&M lineup right now. Those schools are going to be getting better every year.

Cause I feel a hack could be coaching and have his results this year and from the last few years...

Plus he was a hs coach before becoming a MAJOR DIVISION I college coach....It rarely happens like that anymore...if ever.

Sorry that's my take...flame away.

And when he came to A&M in 1983, it was normal for a high school coach to move up to the college ranks. I agree, it doesnt happen anymore. Doesnt mean he cant coach, or that he should be fired just because "it doesnt happen anymore".

Is it really fair for a coach to be fired or asked to resign after one bad season? True, making the tournament to lose first or second round is not exactly "building champions", but is one sub par season really grounds for removal? I am not saying one way or the other, just asking.

And please, XIAggie, back it up with some sort of fact for once.

Fact is were outside the top 75 this year..Fact since 2006 we haven't been out of the 2nd round of the NCAA tournment...

Fact Klienecke is grossly under-performing for the size and resources this school has...

Fact Coach K was in the right place and right time when he was hired at aTm...Good for him he got pretty rich working for aTm but he should retire or be replaced...All facts senor

I get it you disagree but the tale of the tape doesn't lie..

After looking at the statistics online provided by the wonderful SID, I find that the girl's team resembles the guys team of the past couple of years of having a very strong top 3 (21-6 before tonight on the year and 3 players ranked nationally which hasn't happened in a while for the women if I remember right) and weak bottom half (11-16 before tonight).

IMO what really hurts the team is not having a solid 4 player to push the others done. Whether you want to attribute that to recruiting, developing players, or a combo, I'll let you decide.

And to finish, something that has been said on this board many times. BK is one of the longest tenured coach in the nation behind JoPa and has consistently done above average most of his career. To my knowledge he has never had a recruiting violation, is well respected in the coaching community and the women have led the nation in attendance by ridiculous numbers (for college tennis that is).

With Bryne on the hot seat I wouldn't get your hopes of him firing BK and making a big hire or even firing BK at all. Bryne has way more important things to worry about right now: his own job that doesn't rest on the fate of the women's tennis team

Huge win for the girls, and hopefully this sparks a nice win streak going into big 12 play and some confidence with another highly ranked opponent(Notre Dame) coming to Aggieland soon.

This does not make me hater no matter how many times it comes out of your pea sized brain...

We still won't make it past the 2nd round this year we will be lucky to make out 1st round of the tourney if we even make it.
