I had an 8th grader run a 10.9 on two occasions this year. He's never lost an no one is even close. What does this time look like for an 8th grader? They don't have many records online for middle school track to look at.
10.9 is VERY fast for an 8th grader (I assume he's 13 or 14) The problem with the time is that it is a "hand" time and they are often inaccurate. If the same kid were to run an "automatic" 11.14 (comparable to 10.9) it would give more credence to his performance.
Keep developing his top end speed and form. Power and strength can wait but his top speed and form can be much more improved the younger you are. Obviously has some talent, what's his 1/4 mile time?
Knut, that is a very good time for an 8th grader. Most sprinters will drop their times considerably from the time they are 14 to 16. To put it in perspective, I ran the 100m at A&M and ran 11.1 in 8th grade and dropped to 10.76 at 16. I went on to be all conference in the event and ran a best 10.48.
As long as he keeps working hard, he could be pretty fast...as long as football doesn't snatch him up first.
I'll try my best on getting him to A&M. Hopefully they'll do their part when the time comes. I also forgot to mention he won first place in shot put too. 40 ft.
Seriously, a 10.9? Didn't Lache Seastrunk just run a 10.8 at the relays? So an 8th grader is essentially as fast as the guy who was considered by some to be the best RB recruit in the nation this year? If true, then wow.
No Lie. His times on the year are 11.1, 11.54, 10.9, 11.18. He slipped off the blocks in the 11.54 race. Our 4x100 was first every time. Our third leg pulled his hamstring coming into the exchange in the last race of the season. He had to take three hops and then hand off. This kid took the stick from a dead stop in third place and still got us first. He's the real deal.

When Lache Seastrunk ran 10.8 at Texas Relays that was fully automatic. When Knut's kid is running, I'm guessing that all of his races are hand timed which is usually anywhere from .25s - .4s faster than his actual time. His times are still very good for his age, but his 11.1 would have been closer to an 11.3-11.4 at Texas Relays.
The kid from Killeen is Prezel Hardy and his 10.08 is legit! He will be a force for us next year.
