The Aggies will host the round of 64 and 32. The Aggies take on Prarie View A&M on Friday, May 14 at 6pm. Our match will be preceded by TCU/Ole Miss. The winners will play Saturday at 3. In a side note if both A&M and Baylor advance to the sweet 16, they will play each other in the opening round.

Don't like the idea of playing Ole Miss to advance. Certainly like our chances against Baylor if we do.

There is no doubt that Ole Miss is a high two seed...not sure but they are about eighteen or so the last time I looked...that said...I like our chances at home...

Ole Miss. Awesome. I wish they wouldn't come and trash up Mitchell.

For those of you who don't remember...

WOW the women got a hell of a draw! First opponent is South Florida. We already played South Florida this year, and lost a VERY close 4-3 match. We won the 2 doubles line, and lost at 1 9-7 and at 3 9-8. That's definitely a winnable match for a team who, although still not playing their best tennis, certainly looks better than they did then.

If they can pull off the win there, they'd play #11 Miami (or Boston). We'll still be a big underdog against Miami, but man, it's hard to hope for a whole lot better 1 seed than that, considering the less-than-stellar season we've had.

Big break from the selection committee.

How in the world does OU get to host on the men and women? Their men are a 33-48 seed, women are a 17-32, and neither made it past the quarters in their big 12 tourney. Doesnt make much sense. To top it off, the Texas women have to travel there!

I have a serious problem with Baylor being a #7 seed after losing to us twice in the regular season and finishing behind us in the conference. I would think our schedules were very similar, so I don't understand why they are 3 spots ahead of us. At least we know we can beat them in the Sweet 16.

Every school has their trash, including A&M and yes, Ole Miss. But, in general, I've quite enjoyed my experiences with the Ole Miss faithful.

The seedings closely follow the rankings. Baylor is ranked #8, A&M #10

Baylor losses: Florida (6), Louisville (15), Virginia (1), Texas (3), A&M x 2 (10)
Baylor wins: Florida (6), Stanford (7), UCLA (9), Pepperdine (21)

A&M losses: Fresno State (28), Texas x 3 (3), Illinois (13), Ohio State (4)
A&M wins: Cal (17), Louisville (15), Pepperdine (21)

I only included non-conference top 25 wins. A&M was really hurt by not making it to the Indoor Nationals. Keep in mind the rankings are formula driven, not polls.

Don't forget the 2 A&M wins over Baylor in their W column....

That Fresno loss seems to be what ultimately hurt the ranking. I'm also impressed by how many highly-ranked teams Baylor played. That'll really get you ready for May.

Does anyone know the actual formula, or is it proprietary?

I was not including conference wins, probably should have.

I think its proprietary and very complicated. Texas College Tennis blog attempts to recreate the rankings based on a similar formula and gets pretty close. Baylor is #7 there and A&M #8.

But it is a little surprising that we are not ahead of Baylor given the head to head wins. I think bad losses really penalize you.

The formula takes into account so many of your top wins and worst losses based on ranking from the previous week. Each ranking has so many points attributed to it, so high ranking = more points. As the season progress you include more of your top Ws and worst Ls. So that explains why the women fell very far at the start of the season because they were basically averaging in 0s for the lack of wins. You also get "bonus" points for road victories over your top wins.

That makes the rankings a lot of sense, sherpa, thanks for the info.

So basically, Baylor plays 18 top 15 teams every year, and if they win half of them, it helps their ranking a lot. Losing to a #9 or 10 team doesn't affect you much, because if that is one of your "worst losses," you're probably doing well.

So, as was mentioned, bad losses hurt a lot. Freson, I'm looking your way.
