Since all A&M athletics are complete with the postseason, we now know how many points A&M will have come the final release of the director's cup on July 1. A&M will end the season with 1070.75 points. (When the next release happens on June 23, A&M will have 1020.75.)

I am pretty confident that this point total will give us the best finish of all current Big 12 schools. We will be also be the only Big 12 school to eclipse 1000 points. OU and us will be the only ones to eclipse the 900 point barrier.

Final points for top 4 Big 12 schools:
Texas A&M: 1070.75
Oklahoma: 912 - 948 (OU will finish with at least 912 with a max of 948 with a NC in baseball)
Texas: 838.75 - 874.75 (see OU explanation)
Nebraska: 830.25

By my calculations, we will end up in 7th place overall behind Stanford, Florida, Virginia, UCLA, Florida State and Ohio State.

We have accumulated 1070 points with a subpar football program?

I thought the entire competition was decided by who won football?

Oh, you mean there are other sports? And they count? And people are interested in them? [/sarcasm]

Does anyone know/guess where the sips will finish with their $140M budget?

I believe we compete in 18 sports at an NCAA level. I would be interested to see what our rank is based solely on the sports we compete in. If someone is ambitious, let me know the result. Otherwise, I'll look into it after the final tally is released.
I would expect it to be around top 5. That is an amazing accomplishment and a testament to the skills of Bill Byrne. People give him a lot of ****, but the man knows how to win.

Isn't this at least the second year in a row we have led the Big 12 or whatever it is now in the points for the directors cup???

Someone should really compute points per dollar or rank per dollar spent by the athletic department.

It would surely show the sips with a terrible performance for the $135M they spent this year.

Maybe you need to look at the revenue of Texas and Texas A&M.

They are getting more money back for the money spent. They are not indebt

Colorado - my point has nothing to do with debt. tu is so far in the black they actually give money to the university (academics).

My point is that tu spends the most money, but doesn't get the best results.

Athletics is big business, and they make the most money so I would say they are getting the best results

Colorado - I am not sure why you are stuck on this. The Director's Cup scores overall excellence in college athletic programs. It measures excellence via national rankings at end of season by sport.

It doesn't score revenue.

Based on revenue tu wins big.

Based on program excellence tu does not win big.

They spend more and win less.

Gotta go with Spice here. 20th place cannot sit well with Texas Alumnus. If they didn't have an excuse to say "nothing but football matters" before, they certainly do now...

Gotta go with Colorado myself. I love the fact that we are doing well in the Director's Cup, but management has to do with finish and fiscal responsibility, not just finish. Otherwise any school could over spend, go into the red, climb the ladder in the director's cup and then pay big time later when dealing with a lopsided budget.

His point is that t.u. has excellence on both counts.

Well, we haven't had to cut any programs yet! Thus far, our programs are performing (both athletically and academically) with our current level of revenue. Athletics departments are not supposed to make profit. If we turn out $60 million in revenue, pour it all back into the program, and finish 6th, and Texas turns out a billion, pours it all back into the program, and finishes 20th (and has 5 times as many off-the-field problems), aren't we doing better?
