Kleinecke should have begged for her to come back to Aggieland. She was responsible for some of the great recruiting during the women's team's "glory days".

Good news for her and Baylor. Known her since she was 12 and would love to see her bring her competitive fire back to Aggieland as a head coach.

Weaver should never be blamed for any of the team's failures on the court or for recruiting. He is a great coach who is doing the best with what he is given and is allowed to do.

I think Weaver is a fine guy and a good coach. It had been pretty well chronicled on here that Kleinecke does not do a lot of recruiting...and some people say he doesn't do a lot of coaching either, so either its a regular Animal Farm over there, or the assistant is doing a lot of recruiting and coaching.

I don't think its an accident that the team had its best players and results when Ojeda was here.

again weaver >>> ojeda..not even close...a pro tennis player..trust me weaver is not the problem...coach k is the boss he takes the blame.

harry tread lightly you insult one of the best mens tennis players ever at A&M..

Don't know much about Weaver as a coach but I feel pretty confident that Alison could teach the players what it takes both mentally and physically to win. You don't play number one at a big time SEC program with her physical attributes without knowing how to play the game and without playing hard.

EXACTLY!!!

And I'm not insulting anybody. To say that I think Ojeda is a better assistant FOR KLEINECKE than Weaver isn't an insult. If anything it is more of a commentary on Kleinecke than anything else.

Like I said, I think Weaver is a fine coach and a good guy - I just don't think he's what Kleinecke needs, and I think that the results support that.

By the way, Ojeda was EVERY BIT the player (relative to being a woman, of course) that Weaver was.

Im not sure that ANYONE could teach the girls we have now what it takes to win. When you dont care, you just dont care. I know of one, maybe two girls that are really "playing" this summer. Some of them may not hit a ball til August.

bigfoot I could care less what you think.....

Back to the topic...again Weaver is not the problem...buck stops with K.having allison as assitant will not change the problem..

It's like in football when coordinator start being replaced the ship is sinking..

You do realize weaver played on the pro tour..and I believe has the most doubles wins ever at A&M as a Div 1 MENS TENNIS PLAYER...

Think he knows a thing or two about tennis...this thread needs to die

Not even close to being the same type of player...good lord..[/facepalm.

Weaver is the real deal and will be a DI Tennis HC. His recruiting had to come up a notch as he was new to the game a couple years ago but I think the next signees will be top flight.

You do realize we are talking about the WOMEN'S team here, right? If we were talking about women's basketball, what makes you think that Acie Law would be a better assistant coach than Takia Starks? Oh because he's a MAN that automatically makes him better?

By the way, anyone can play on the pro tour. All that you need to get into the qualies at the lowest level is an IPIN and an entry fee. Weaver had some success on the tour, but so did Ojeda. Weaver's success was mostly in doubles (748 ATP singles, 308 doubles) and so was Ojeda (high rank of 558 WTA doubles).

Weaver's best NCAA ranking was 30 in singles and 14 in doubles. Ojeda's was 23 in singles, 16 in doubles. Sounds pretty similar to me.

Not that ANY of this matters all that much in what makes a great assistant but I think in the midst of your Weaver-worshipping it might have passed you by that Ojeda was JUST AS GOOD of a tennis player RELATIVE TO BEING A WOMAN.

I'm not saying that Weaver wasn't a great player and I'm not saying he's not a great coach, so you don't have to keep blindly defending your hero, because I'm not attacking him - I agree with your points.

My main points are that when Ojeda was here, we had a better team and Weaver has not brought in too much talent. Maybe he has a couple of superstars in store for us this year, and I hope so (and I think Kleinecke's job depends on it).

Now whatever screw is loose in your head that makes you think that being a man is such a huge advantage in coaching women, I hope that you have daughters some day because only then are you going to figure out how wrong you are!

XL you are not being logical.

1. Just because someone is a better player doesn't make them a better coach.

2. A guy coach is not per se better than a female coach of FEMALE players. The fact that you emphasize the difference between male and female tennis only underlines this point.

If you would just stick to arguing why you think Weaver is better at coaching tennis/recruiting, that would be fine. But there's no denying 1 and 2 above.

XIAggie, Im glad you could care less what I say. The same could be said for everyone reading what you say too.

Although I think Allison was great at A&M, I dont think she could be given credit for the girls we got in during those "glory days". She came in 03, correct? Roland and Spencer were already here a year or two, and Walker made the decision to transfer before Ojeda was in the picture. Same with Mechem, already committed. About the only girl she may have helped recruit was Anna Lubinsky.

Not saying she wasnt a great coach, but I am not sure who you are saying she recruited that wasnt already here. I also dont think that Allison would have entertained the idea of coming here again instead of Baylor. From MTSU, you want to take a step up, and right now, A&M isnt really a step above Baylor for an asst job.
Harry Dunne
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Interesting Bigfoot...I always (mistakenly) assumed Ojeda had recruited them. Who was the assistant coach before her?

XL, thanks for showing yourself to be a sexist fool who knows very little about tennis.

I am assuming she came in in the fall of 2003. There are no asst coaches listed for those two years, but the baylor presser says that she coached at Bama in 05 and was at A&M for two years. I think the asst before her was Amanda Ballinger.
