I didn't get to see the match, but first off
Congrats to the Ladies! I didn't think they could pull this off but they apparently played very well last night. I heard really good things about the play of Kelsey Black (not unexpected), Lindsey Miller (Maybe she's finally starting to get a good connection with the new setter, but after last year we knew she was capable of this) and Allie Sawatsky (I was not at all impressed with her in the beginning of the year but maybe some on court experience is paying off) Some very knowledgeable volleyball friends of mine were saying she is someone who is going to be very good in this league, so that bodes well for the future.
In regards to the question about the new coaching face on the bench, it is LJ Sariego from Texas Advantage Volleyball Club in Dallas.
http://www.ascvb.com/ This is the same club that both Steph Minnerly and Chelsea Ringel played for, although I don't know whether they were actually on his 16's team at any time. One of the Freshman DS's for Texas also played there.
It looks like he is really having a positive impact on the ball control and defense. Again I didn't see the match but from what I here we put on a much better passing performance than Texas last night which obviously plays a key part in coming out with the victory.
I'm excited to see this team develop and now that they have raised everyone's expectations I hope they can keep playing at this level the rest of the season. I'd love to see one more big time hitter step up at some point to complement Kelsey Black and Lindsey Miller so we aren't forced to overuse them all season. I think Kastmo can be this player as she becomes more comfortable on the right side, but only time will tell!
