Yeah, Maria's time would've B-finaled last year. Everyone's SO fast this year...

Just came back from the Finals this evening. Some observations:

1. Camille Adams had an awesome swim in the 'B' final - 500 FR. Of course, if she swam that way in the prelims, she would have been in the 'A' final. I wasn't there this morning, but I was told that she might have gone out too fast this morning.

2. Hate to admit it, but the t.u. swimmers looked really good this evening.

3. Georgia's performances really stood out - as you can tell from the score.

4. Allison Schmitt broke the pool record in the 500 FR. The 2nd place girl from Towson State had the swim of her life. Was on Schmitt's heels the entire race!

5. I know there's still 2 days left, but right now, I'd say that Stanford, Cal, and Georgia are the front runners, and that t.u. can have a shot at the top 5. This is just from looking at the Psych sheet.

6. We really, really need to get in the 'A' Final in the relay tomorrow! Maybe that will kick-start us!

At current, USC is the front-runner. They'd be winning if their diver hadn't bombed prelims, and were seeded to be 5th after day 1. Their two best days are yet to come. Unless Georgia turns things around tomorrow, this is USC's meet to lose.

A&M loses 17 points off of seeds, Texas loses 30, even after their strong comebacks in the evening session. Both squads need to avoid a prelims like they had today, and they'll be fine tomorrow.

Adams' finals swim in the 500 was SPECTACULAR! Can't wait to see what she does in the 200 fly.

Wisconsin isn't giving up that 9th place spot easily. Florida was pretty bad today, but should be better on the next two.

y'all must have missed the 57.8 breaststroke leg tonight.....holy crap

Camille's swim in the B final was excellent, as was the 400 medley relay. Both swims however should have been in the A final, not the B final. Notice they replaced Medrano with Chernoff on the fly leg? Larson must be one hell of a racer. She found another gear in the breaststroke leg. Her split was outstanding. Only one split faster - Tyler from Minnesota.

Our divers scored zero today. A bummer.

Impressive swims tonight out of Adams (she is fearless in taking her races out fast), Larson, Sommer, and the medley. If we can do this kind of thing during prelims, we can get the ship turned back towards the top 10. Can't say enough how bad we need good swims in those relays tomorrow.

I'm really encouraged by what could come out of Adams in the 200 fly and Larson in both breaststrokes the next few days.

AAI: I didn't stick around for the medley relay. I left when the diving started.

In a nutshell, as of yesterday, this meet is being dominated by PAC 10 schools. True, Georgia is in the mix.

Too bad I missed the 400 medley relay. Looks like Camille's swim may have fired everybody up!

Oh man, can't believe I forgot to mention that swim by Larson in my last post...even better, she did it head-to-head against Sogar, and crushed her!

Both the Ags and tu swam different 400 medley relay lineups in prelims. I think that might say that both coaches thought they could get into finals more easily.

There is no room for error.

Camille probably just found another gear in finals. What a great swim. Same with Larson. 100 breast is today. Really looking forward to that.

#3 seed in prelims of 200 medley...no messing around today! Miller had the fastest 50 fly split (23.00)...maybe a surprise contender for an A-final later today?

So far a much better day for the Ags! A finals for the 200 medley relay, 400 IM, 100 breast, and 100 back.

Bispo and Sogar are the only tu swimmers holding up.

Georgia has 5 girls scoring for 200 free including seeds 1-2-3.

Larson lowers the school record in the 100 breast yet again! this girl is unstoppable this weekend. can't wait for that finals swim and the 200 tomorrow.

Miller's 50 fly on the medley was also very impressive. outsplitting the rest of the field by at least .2.

with these freshmen tearing it up like this, i have a feeling the next few years are going to be ridiculous

I agree Juicy J. If we can get the divers healthy and the free relays up to speed we're going to be hell to deal with.

Great morning by the ladies almost across the board. Would have liked Miller to get back in the 100 fly after that monster fly split on the relay but she got it done in the back at least. I'll be giddy if Larson can just hold her place tonight. Tyler looked like crap the first 50 and still went 58.5.

Glad to see so many 'A' finalists tonight! Keep it going ladies!

I'm giddy about Larson's time in the 100 breaststroke. Best freshman mark in history.

What's going on with the divers? No points so far in two events?

I always thought 30 points was a little bit of an ambitious estimate for them, but I didn't expect a shutout either. They haven't dove well, despite being in a very familiar facility. Probably won't score any today in the platform either.

Did you guys see that Rachel Bootsma, who's a HS junior in Minnesota, posted a 50.76 yesterday in the 100 back?? Ummm, we've got a lot of Canadians on our team, and Minnesota is almost Canada, right? Maybe we've got a shot at her??

That's going to be a huge points boost! Awesome! Also got a great early-heat swim from Sarah Henry to set the school record in the mile. Will be close to holding up for points.

We just DQ'd the 400 FR relay! Anyone see what happened? They didn't say anything online.
AGBlastoff
How long do you want to ignore this user?
DQ cost us a tie for 9th with Minnesota. 10th still a great finish.

Good experience for these young freshman. We had fantastic swims, but we're clearly more than just "getting a year older" away from a top-3 finish. Let's hope we have another outstanding freshman class next year and build off of this momentum.

Aggie swim of the meet was Larson's 200, in my opinion.

third leg was -.01 on takeoff

Agreed. Great year. One great class of sprint freestylers will take us from a top 10 team to a top 5 team. Janie and Lorena return and Jaele and the Florida stud are on the way next year. Though there has been no official release yet, there are three sprinters rumored to be signed already which should help significantly despite the loss of Maria. I'd love to find one home run hitter sprint freestyler. We do that and we can take home a team trophy next year.

Hope we're still looking.

Still a few very good Canadians on the board...Tianna Rissling hasn't committed, though doubt we'd use money on another breaststroker. Not much quality left in state. Must've had to do some more creative recruiting to get the sprinters. It's unfortunate timing, as there's not a ton of great sprinters in this HS class in general.

Agreed! We get some sprinters to fill the relays & we'll be top 5!

Overall a very good meet for the ladies. The young girls got lots of good experience racing on the big stage, they had some killer fast swims, and even though there were some underwhelming spots I thought it was still a good meet overall.

Larson is ridiculous. If you had told me last year that we would be saying "Alia who?" after just one year, I would have laughed at you. absolutely incredible. those freshman are all stepping up, and if they continue to do so this team is going to be "unbreakable", as the girls like to say, for the next 4 years and beyond. gonna be very exciting to watch for years to come.

Well done ladies!

Good interviews. Cammile (2/8) Breeja (5/8)

Great job!

Did Breeja start club swimming last year or competitive swimming?

Based on the interview, it sounds like club. But still...

If she improves any more AT ALL...it's just kind of mind numbing to even think about...she's already among the top 10 EVER. It's pretty hard to get a grip not just on how special this kid is right now, but what she could be.

That is what I thought ... either way it is incredible to think that she is just getting started!

Larson has only been swimming competitively since she was 17 and arrived at A&M with a lifetime best of 1:02 in the race.
