Hunt Seat lost to OSU 3 - 5 in quarterfinals. Western is beating Baylor in quarterfinals.

Great! We'll probably be stinky from a trip to the ranch, but maybe everyone else will be, too.

They deserve some props for the NC in western. I don't know much about this, but watched some Youtube of the best to understand. Cool stuff, great job by the Ags.

We got there in time to watch the final match with KState. I've ridden and judged some reining, and I have a question for those of you who follow our equestrian team: How in the heck was that final KState rider not penalized for that godawful, awkward way of carrying her off-hand? It looked like she was pumping something.

Congrats to the national champions! Awesome representatives of our school.

I am not sure which specific ride you are referring to, but the only time a zero score or deduction is given is when the rider uses 2 hands or uses the romal other than what is allowed by the AQHA guidelines. A simple "pumping" of the arm is not grounds for a disqualification score, nor is it grounds for a penalty deduction. You will see this sometimes on the large fast circles and on the run up to the sliding stops as well. It would be a lot less noticable on the small and slow circles.

I will make note that the first ride of the championship round, by KSU's Warner, had numerous performance reductions in her scoring. Cooper actually scored the ride at a 7 point reduction, while Dudley scored it with a 3 point reduction. KSU's Zimbelman received a zero score as well in the championship round for being off pattern, both in reining.

It was the final KState rider. Her style should not have caused a disqualification, but she her form was terrible.

Bucketrunner, I think it's just a style difference. I'm not a fan of the arm pumping, but it's not a cause for penalty.

I have to say that I saw some of the finest riding I've seen in a long time at the competition. The patterns these girls execute are far more difficult than breed competitions, and they are aboard unfamiliar horses.

I wish we had been able to attend all the sessions. Just the finals in the western riding were amazing. It's always interesting to see the difference in the horses' performance with different riders handling them. No doubt the Ags have some real talent on board.
