Btw, we would all prefer all Americans
Not me.
I prefer the best players and best kids possible. If they happen to be American, that's awesome. If they don't, that's great too.
The girl we are getting from Arkansas has an Indian dad and an American mom, so she's American. Sort of. She's from New Braunfels so she's from Texas. Sort of. Except she lived in India too. So is it better to get her because she's sort of from Texas or is it better to get a kid from Hawaii who like our president is or is not really American or is it better to get a kid from England who is ethnically more like us than either of the other two?
I mean it really gets blurry when you start thinking about it. Why is it better if they are American? And what is American anyway? Is half-American really American? Is Obama American? How long do you have to be in America to be American? Is Shuon Madden, who has lived here most of his life American? Would you rather have had some kid from Dallas than Shuon on our team? Is Shuon a real Aggie?
A lot of questions, I know. My whole point is that I think it's important to get the best Aggies we can get and I think that where they are from is much less important than what they can do with a tennis racket and what kind of person they are. The funny thing is that the only "real" Americans are the native kind, and not too many of those are blue-chip tennis players.
You all are of course entitled to different opinions and I respect that, but when SMU comes to our house and beats us with a bunch of Pollocks next week (or Baylor with their Germans if we squeak by SMU), I promise you that they are not going to enjoy it any less or be any less proud of their team because it's not full of a bunch of kids from Snook and Vidor.
