Does anyone know how qualifying works for the national meet? Are there ways to qualify for the finals with top times in the conference meets, or does everyone have to go through the regional meet???

Everything goes through the 2 preliminary round sites with the exception of the multi-events (Dec and Hep). There may be a few more Aggie names added to that list, as there is a declaration process for each event which could bump some athletes up into the selection spots, i.e. a 400 Hurdler is also top 48 in the 400m, but does not declare in that event.

The top 24 (declared) nationwide scores in decathlon and heptathlon skip the regionals and qualify for the national meet.

For all other events, the country is split into 2 regions.

The top 24 relay teams in each region compete at each regional. In all other events, the top 48 in each region compete at the regional.

Each event has it's own procedure, but at each regional, the top 12 relay teams and top 12 individuals in each event qualify for nationals. Thus, you'll have 24 relay teams or individuals in every event at the national meet.
