It's that time again. French Open play begins tomorrow.

I posted this on the Aussie Open thread prior to the final.

Novak is playing the best tennis in the world. I agree...4 sets.

I had it right, but never thought he would be this dominate to start the year. He has been simply amazing.

However, Rafa owns the French. On paper this looks like a 2 man battle, but there are some other interesting foes out there.

Really hoping Federer has a good run in him, because if he meets Djoker in the semi's, Novak will be sitting on 42, tied with McEnroe, and having to go through arguably the best tennis player in history to get the record by himself. What a semi that would be.

On the women's side, as always, Dulko is who I'm rooting for!

thoughts? predictions?

Rafa and the Djoker in the finals, Fed will lose in rd. or 16 or quarters

Djoker will win it all

Clijsters will win the womens

isn't clijsters dealing with the ankle? or is she back to 100%?

Also, Del Potro could give Djoker some trouble in the 3rd round. Would be entertaining to watch at least.

Gotta go with Rafa. I'm afraid Fed's best days are long gone. The Joker really impressed me by beating Rafa in Madrid but I think Nadal will bounce back with a vengence.

Novak has been absolutely unreal this year. He's not always my favorite player, but it's great to see him finally playing up to the potential everyone knows he has. It's not often that I wish for Fed to get knocked out before the final, but I really really want to see a Novak/Rafa championship. We'll see if that streak he's on can continue in a place undoubtedly owned by Nadal.

And by the way- poor Isner. I love that guy. What bad luck to draw Rafa in the first round...

rafa will win.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
as for my predictions...I hate to go against Novak, especially considering he just beat Rafa twice on clay recently...but this is Rafa's place.

I think Rafa beats Djoker in a 5 set thriller.

Women...I'll take Sharapova. Don't have any good reason why, just think it's time she comes out and makes another big run. Clijsters coming off the ankle gives me a bit of concern to go with her.

Rafa should win. I think the clay court specialists may wear Djokovic down some by taking a set off him here and there, even if they don't beat him. We'll see how much he has left at the end, especially with the weight of the streak upon him.

Good grief... Cilic has played some fantastic matches in his career so far, but then there are those like today that just make you scratch your head.

Berdych loses a GREAT match in 5 to Frenchman Robert

WOW. Huge upset- down goes Berdych in what will probably be the match of the day. French veteran qualifier Stephane Robert won 9-7 in the 5th after coming back from 2 sets down. He had never won a 5-setter or beaten a top-10 player until today. He was making some unbelievable shots.

Djokovic was as close to perfect as you can get against De Bakker, Del Potro (good to see him back) got a good win against the tricky Karlovic, Mardy is playing well right now up 2 sets to 1 against the Brazilian Mello, and Roger closed out his match against Feliciano Lopez in straights looking very relaxed.

Not the best call to end the first set for Coco. She did hit the ball twice, but it was a continuous motion, which is completely legal. Tough call, but I think the chair umpire got it wrong

Coco has fallen apart in the second, making a little comeback but down 5-2

Well Andy Murray destroyed his French opponent and Sharapova looked extremely strong in her win against Lucic. Next up is Nadal/Isner!!

Something else to note- Ryan Harrison gets in the main draw as a lucky loser when the former Baylor guy Becker has to withdraw due to an injury. He'll be up against Soderling, so I hope he can play well and give Robin some trouble. I read earlier that Ryan got fined for some unsportsmanlike conduct- racket abuse and a verbal obscenity- during the qualifying rounds, so at least he gets a chance to redeem himself.

Isner and Nadal tied at 1 set all

On a side note, God bless espn3

Well.... it was an extremely quick first set for Soderling against Ryan. :/ 6-1. Oh, and Ivanovic lost another first round match.

Keep it up Isner!!

LOVE the way he plays- SO much potential.

Down goes Isner, 6-4 in the 5th. Great match for him, first time Rafa has played a 5 setter in Paris
Mynameisclever
How long do you want to ignore this user?
That was a hell of an effort by Isner. I'm pretty sure Nadal didn't even drop a set last year.

Yep, Isner played really well- can't wait to see him at Wimbledon this year.

Good fight from Ryan, but Soderling was too much in the end. I think we're going to see big big things from him very soon.

Maybe Ryan will be the American's answer on clay, because we surely don't have one right now

wow, finally able to get away for a moment to check up on the action. Sounds like I missed a thriller between Nadal and Isner. Good for Isner. I'll definitely have to catch the replay or at least highlights of that one.

I would bet they show the Isner/Rafa match on French Open Tonight on tennis channel this afternoon/evening
