America is awesome. Sure our foreign policy sucks sometimes and other things here are certainly not perfect but all it takes is a little international travel to realize how good we have it here. Thicker passports is what the complainers need. I'm sure that most of them are not world travelers.

America is exceptional.

However, the success of the women's national soccer team has absolutely nothing to do with that, and everything to do with Title IX and the resulting proliferation of women's college soccer programs. No other country has anything even vaguely resembling this.

College athletics? Yeah, sort of. Strong women's athletic development programs and the cash incentive for athletes to make soccer their trade? No, that'd be incorrect.

Well, yeah, I suppose the good ones are all playing professionally in Europe by the time they are university aged.

I'm not saying our college system does not help us, and it works for us, but there's a lot more to it than that.
