Brendan Hansen is racing again. I wonder if he is back in form? The USA sucked in men's breaststroke at Worlds last week.

He was 1:01.37/2:14.56 at the Santa Clara meet.

Speaking of breaststrokers, what became of Michael Alexandrov? He set an American record at the '10 Short Course Nationals but didn't go to Worlds. Is he weaker at long course?

Edit: I see he's seeded 2nd in the 100 for Nationals, still wondering what happened at Worlds.

I have no info on Alexandrov - but he was clearly a disappointment at Worlds. I'm guessing that he just hasn't trained properly since he earned his spot. Our men's medley relay barely won because of breaststroke, then a sub-par swim by Adrian.

Spicewood - Hansen went 1:00.17 and is the top seed into finals.

Other Aggie Swims of note:

Erica Dittmer 2:16.98 for 21st in 200IM, earns spot in C final

Cammile Adams 4:15.91 for 32nd in 400 free. Would need 2 scratches to swim tonight.

Hansen is already faster than the best US swim at Worlds. Looks like he is a serious contender for the US for London. I think it is sad though that our fastest breastroker is 29 years old.

McElhany's time is VERY solid.

There was no swim-off in the fly (1 scratch), so McElhany is in the B Final. Breaking 1:00 would be very sweet on Day 1.

Well, in fairness Hansen was only .02 faster than Gangloff...

Alexandrov swam at Worlds, but not well (missed semifinals). Was already was faster at Nationals in prelims. He just switched to train with Dave Salo at USC, who has pretty unique training methodologies. Probably just hasn't fully adjusted yet (much of USC was just average at Worlds).

59.79 for McElhaney. 4th fastest back half of ALL finalists, only Vollmer, Breeden and Hersey were faster on 2nd 50.

So Universal is showing the B finalof the men's 400 Free but didn't show the girl's 100 Fly B final. We were hoping to see Caroline swim. Heard she went under a minute. Love to see those Friendswood Mustangs do well especially when they are also Aggies (sorry Cole).

Nice swim by Dittmer to win the C final. She had a strong breaststroke leg and a very strong freestyle to overtake the others to win.

Fastest breast stroke leg of all finalists for Dittmer. Very nice.

McElhany transferred out of UT to A&M, this will be a very solid story for recruiting.

Speaking of which, is it already too early to discuss future prospects? They're definitely swimming at this meet.

It was interesting to see that Ed Moses is racing again. He looked fit, though not super-fast.

I am all for our stars to keep swimming or to come back to the sport.

But Missy Franklin is 16, and 3rd fastest in the world in 200 back. Fastest 200 free time in Shanghai (relay leadoff).

I know girls mature earlier. But what is going on with our young guys? Some semi-phenoms of recent times, like Matt Thompson, are doing nothing special. Only two males under 20 in the A or B final of the 100 breast.

Maybe Franklin will top out like Dagny Knutson seems to be doing....

David Nolan hasn't swum yet. But he races 200 free today. Maybe he'll do something special.

These days, American males never really pan out until after they finish college. But yeah, it seems like until now, we'd always had at least one teenage male on just about every Olympic/WC team...I think it's plausible that the top of the heap is just so good (Phelps/Lochte) that it's just incredibly difficult for the men to compete, whereas the top of the women's heap (Soni...Torres...Vollmer) just isn't as dominant.

It seems like the older females (Coughlin, Hoff, etc.) are very fast, but not improving. Hardy may have some more in the tank. Soni is easily the world's fastest female breaststroker and probably has several more WRs in her.

But the explosive swims are coming from Franklin, Tosky, and perhaps a few more.

The older guys are at the top of their game and I haven't seen an explosive youngster in a while. Dax Hill has the potential because he was undertrained as a high schooler. And that frame of his could make him the next 100/200 guy.

Nolan scratched 200 free to focus on his 100 back. He was unimpressive.

Dax seeded 3rd for finals of the 200 free.

Megan Latone beat Moldenhauer in 100 back. Neither in finals. Escobedo a bit off her seed time.

@Spice -

With regards to Hansen being 29, I don't think it's a big deal.
Looking at the final at worlds :
Kitajima-29
Gangloff-29
Rickard-28
Dale Oen-26
That's half the final at 25+, and the rest of the guys are all around the 21/22 mark.
Mens breast just doesn't have a lot of 17yr old wonderkids getting into finals.

I know....I'm just a bit surprised that no young guys are showing anything special right now.

We know Lezak was/is fast, Phelps is 26, etc.

Maybe part of the problem is long course. Most of the young guys spend a lot of time in SCY. Older guys are done with the NCAA and can focus on international distances.

The girls are swimming great! Will they swim any relays? Did anyone notice how the UT girls are way off on their times? The 200 IM had four of them at 2:19 and Sogar doesn't final. They have to be thinking...here we go again. Good luck AGS!!

relay was solid, not great. 3:53.39 for 27th, McElhany was the best split in 56.95, which converts to a 49.7 in meters. Sort of highlights how important Ibanez is going to be for our relays next year.

Continue to be excited about McElhany's return though. 59.7 in the 100 fly (52.4 converted) as well...any points at NCAA's from her would be a big bonus next year.

Trials cuts for Dittmer in the 100 Breast and 50 Free, Conner in the 400IM, Dalton in the 50 Free.

Cammile Adams - 4:43.54, 4th seed in the 400IM! Make sure you're watching the live feed tonight!

Camille had a great swim tonight to take 3rd. She outswam the former phenom Dagny Knutson and of course 7 others in that heat.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
Great swim by Camille in the 400 IM. The team has really developed an incredible IM group with Camille and Sarah in the 400 and Dittmer, Pavlin and Caroline in the 200. I would put those 5 against any other 5 in the country. They all have 3 years to get faster too.

Great swim by Adams! Lots of face time on-air for the Ags!

(She was technically 3rd, though B-Final champion Lyndsay DePaul had a great time for the third-best mark overall).

swimchamps - I'd probably agree that I'd put them up against any 5 in the country, aside from maybe Stanford.

Tonight, we've got - Dalton 100 free, Jordan King, Cammile, Jaclin, 200 fly, Alyssa Conner Jordan King 200 back, Alyssa Maureen Ashley Adams 800 free

Adams top seed in the 200 fly B-Final, 2:11. Not bad. Dalton 46th in the 100 free - 50.82 - converts to a 43.8 SCY - best time.

Megan Latone 2:14.9 in the 200 back for the 13th seed (representing Nitro).

Conner 2:17 in the 200 back, places 49th. Rehring 2:16.2 Trials cut in 200 fly for 46th.

Watched all the races that I had DVR'd.

Lets just all agree that Missy Franklin is the next Phelps. How many events for her in London?
