So has knoll ever been found cheating ever? You always here stuff but I am wondering if the NCAA has ever caught them cheating.

Not that I know of, but the 20 year old freshman rule was pretty much a Baylor induced rule

It doesn't appear anything major has been found, although I have heard RUMORS that some of the foreign players on the women's team in the past shouldnt have been allowed to play because of their amateur status. I did find this one mentioning of some sanctions back in 2000 under Knoll

6th paragraph down is the mention

There was a ton of controversy with Knoll back when he had 4 studs playing 1-4 and all rotating positions. Back in the days of Becker, Dorsch, Papp and Marin. They had all played some sort of German tennis league, where they said they hadn't accepted money, but some results suggested differently

The improper financial aid charge, as it was told to me, was that Knoll had the 5th year guys giving their extra scholarship money to the underclassmen and letting them live rent-free. It was the understood deal that when you're a freshman you get some extra money to help with your expenses and then when you're a 5th year senior Knoll helps you get a cush job so you have some extra $ and can "share" with the rest of the team.

I hate to say this because it is definitely cheating, but you have to respect how close and unselfish the team was that this could even work. It's kind of like Jim Tressel, where you can see that he was a great coach and did a lot of things right, and you just scratch your head because of the stupid stuff he did wrong.

I also don't think we should point fingers too much at cheating, because Denton was MAJORLY cheating at A&M-Corpus - stuff that makes the Baylor thing look mild. With brilliant timing, he barely got out the door in time and got this job before the NCAA hammered A&M Corpus with the worst penalties to a tennis program that I have ever heard of.

I read a quote the other day that if the NCAA made the rulebook for life, we would all be permanently suspended! Pretty much true. I think most successful programs commit a lot of violations, some on purpose, some on accident. If you look at A&M's past, we are no exception.

Didn't know that about Denton. I feel better about being able to compete in the SEC now.

I dont necessarily blame denton for his actions on TAMU-CC he built that program from nothing..I don't see how that is relevant to him now as the coach of aTm?

The thing that is funny is that Denton is t-shirt sip he has a degree from TAMU-CC.

He has a degree from TAMU-CC, but he was an all american at Texas, and is in their hall of fame.

He may not truly be a sip, but he is about as close as you can get without having a degree from there.

That being said, I think he is completely dedicated to our school and our tennis program.

that and the ATP tour changed serving rules because of him.

He took a step and a half forward before his toss and serve. I know some of his contemporaries on the tour who say it was nearly two full steps. If you watch him serve now, he still does it, though it's much less pronounced...more of a "shuffle" forward. Damn he could crush a serve though. And hit ridiculous reaction volleys.

I would have loved to see him play back in his "playing weight" days.

I've seen him hit with the guys, and his hands are still unreal fast at the net. Very impressive

Not sure what is bigger. Denton's ego or his ass!
