Women's team added Cristina Sanchez-Quintanar of Maryland to roster. Looks like we will be very good at the top of the lineup! Hopefully Howard and Mark can get some of the girls playing well in the remainder of the lineup and we might be pretty good this year. My guess is she replaced the scholarship for Potgieter not returning. Anyone know why she isn't returning? Sounds like we got an upgrade anyways.

This girl is waaayyy better than Potgeiter. 10x better. Ags can compete with almost anyone at 1 and 2 now.

Looking forward to seeing all the new girls play this coming year! Should be a fun and exciting year with all the changes.

Exactly. In one move he already improved the team to what I think will be its highest level in 10 years. We will still have some issues at the bottom this season but when you have two top 25 players at #1 and 2 you're going to have a good season. As good as I think this year will be, after getting rid of dead weight Santacroce and Olivier and replacing them with more studs, 2013 should be an incredible season.

I think everyone agrees that Mark W is an excellent coach, but we are all going to see how he was hamstrung by not knowing how to recruit and not having a mentor. Hopefully Joffe will teach him his tricks so that we can keep this thing going for a long time to come.

PS -Sun Wen is still here. I'm going to guess that she ends up playing #3

I wouldn't be surprised to see Joffe clear out the bottom of the lineup before the season starts. He strikes me as the type that wants to win big and win now.If he gets the top of the lineup in competitive shape, I can't see him stopping there especially with the SEC right around the corner.

We're going to see some great college teams on a week in and week out basis starting next season.

how BK recruited definitely affected Weaver's ability to recruit and I think its more of Weaver was never taught how to effectively recruit. Hopefully Joffe can raise the bar soon.

I think Joffe will do a great job recruiting and I am sure that he will show Mark some good recruiting traits, however I think the problem before with Kleinecke is that Mark was doing a majority of the recruiting which just isn't how it should work. I guarantee you Denton does almost all of the recruiting on the men's side. No matter how good or how bad Mark may or may not be recruiting doesn't really matter. If the girls are not recruited strongly by the head coach or think the head coach sucks they are not going to go to that school plain and simple.

Aggietennisfan- where do you get your info that Mark did all the recruiting? Any facts to back that up?

I know that Mark did a lot of the recruiting, perhaps not the majority. My main point is and no offense to Mark and Bob Mckinley, is the head coach will be the determining factor on where a kid decides to go to school. If Mark is recruiting a girl and Fendick from Texas is recruiting the same girl, who is going to get the the recruit?

I know you are right that Mark did a lot of the recruiting, but if a girl was a high enough recruit, I'm pretty sure that Bobby would have recruited her as well. I know for a fact that Bobby went on many recruiting trips, sometimes with Mark alongside.

Mark may not quite be in the same ballpark with Bob McKinley, but I know Bob could recruit just as well as Denton.

Of course, Mark and Bob are like comparing apples to giraffes.

bigfoot is getting upset because I perhaps insulted hid still hero Bobby Kleinecke. i agree that Mckinley is an unbelievable coach. National assistant coach of the year to be exact. I don't think there are too many better assistant coaches better than Mark anywhere around. How much longer will bigfoot continue to defend his idle?

While we wait bigfoot's response we need more of this as well.

You really think that Sherman is the main guy on the road talking to prospective players? That's why he has asst coaches. Same for every other sport on campus.

For the record, I am happy with the hire of Joffe. I think he will recruit better than Bobby was able to, and I think he will get us back to the top. He is the coach now, and I fully respect that. Next year will be fun to watch, but when he gets some of his girls in here, we should be pretty good, pretty quick. Gonna be fun to watch him develop this team.

comparing football recruiting to tennis recruiting is a very foolish comment. NO COMPARISON for numerous reasons.

I am comparing who does the recruiting. Not the recruiting itself. I know they aren't the same.

The main issue in recruiting and the main problem with our women's tennis in previous years has been "not being able to seal the deal". That is my main point. I guarantee you that all of our coaches can see talent, that is not the problem. There is much more to recruiting than that. Kleinecke could not "seal the deal" with the big recruits and honestly couldn't even bring them in for visits. Mark, as a assistant coach, it is not his duty nor should it be.

I know that they were told by more than one recruit that the reason they would not come to A&M was because of one or more certain team members.

Not disagreeing about BK not sealing the deal with the big ones, but sometimes it wasn't his fault completely. However, you are right, his recruiting went down towards the end of his tenure. That is obvious.

The trouble I have reading these tennis threads is that there seem to be a lot of people with some very close connection to the program...but they all have completely different stories about its inner workings.

It would honestly take me all day and I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings (which obviously happens pretty frequently on this board). In the end, any excitement and awareness that is being brought to Aggie Tennis is a good thing. It will be awesome when the Ags are in the SEC and going up against the big boys and girls every week. The sizeable fan followings of our tennis programs will help to make a statement in the SEC.

Does anyone know the answer to the OP's question on why Christi Potgieter did not return? She seemed to be such a highly ranked recruit coming out of South Africa and following in the footsteps of her sister. Was it because Else was not asked back as a graduate assistant? Thanks in Advance.

It has nothing to do with Elze not being asked back as a graduate assistant. I have been told that Christi is going back to South Africa in January and didn't want to waste a scholarship for half a semester. I think people sometimes underestimate how difficult it can be to move to a different country. It's not for everyone
