Just saw this for the first time. I'm a proponent of having a poll but...

How in the heck are the Missouri women ranked ahead of us? We beat them handily in our dual meet. We will beat them handily at Big 12's. We will beat them handily at NCAA's. Pretty sure we'd give Indiana all they want and more too. I see no reason we should be any lower than 9th.

On the men's side, we haven't dropped a meet to anyone but Texas but we drop out of the poll? Seems to me we've been swimming better this fall than we have in past falls too.

Also, do they take diving into account at all? If they don't this might explain a lot.

I guess it doesn't help that both the Missouri and Texas coaches vote on this poll but damn...

Do they at least show how the coaches voted? How complicated can the selection process get after Missouri got taken down in Mansfield. I hope the girls will use this as motivation during the winter training schedule. We are more of an end of the year team anyway so maybe it's just not that relevent.

Does anyone know if Sarah Henry will swim this spring for the team? She picked up an OTC at Gulf Champs in the 400 IM which is incredible this time of year comming off the injury. She could score a lot of points at 90% of full strength.

Most polls in sports are completely stupid. (See pre-season polls when noone can possibly know anything about the teams) But the swimming poll is the stupidest one I've ever seen. How can anyone in the world think that Missouri is a better team than A&M? Just mind blowing. I trust blu's power rankings on his website more than this asinine poll. If it truly is a duel meet poll then noone should be allowed to look at times from an Invite. Just so frustrating

I have to agree it's an irrelevant poll, a few years ago on the men's side Louisville was ranked at around 16th in the first poll, with A & M unranked. Needless to say, that wasn't even close to the case at the end of the year (both at duels and NC's).

Someone once tried to justify to me that there's a change in the polls because some people try to envision or guess as to the improvement of the freshman and team in the current season.

My reply was that in a sport that's completely ruled by a very specific, completely quantitative measurement (time) that seemed a pretty incorrect view to have.
