Lots of very fast swimmers in this LCM meet which kicks off the home stretch to the Olympic Trials.

Lots of Aggies (women) swimming. I watched the women's 200 breaststroke and Breeja looked very smooth to win her heat with a 2:32, well under the OT cut of 2:35-something. Micah Lawrence had the fastest prelim time but she is a poor finals swimmer so will likely be passed by Soni, Breeja, Jillian Tyler, and perhaps a few others.

Phelps and Lochte went too slow in the 100 free prelims to make the A final.

Interesting that Sarah Henry swam the 400M this morning. She swam next to Camille/Natalie Adams.

Janet Evans will be swimming this race later today in the "B flight." They are running this meet in an A flight and B flight structure - the A flights are the 7 fastest heats for races 200M or shorter; 5 fastest for 400M races.

Would Sarah Henry be swimming for the aggies this spring? What is happening with Ibanez? Does anyone knows?

Larson had an OK final. Dropped a bit of time, but Soni ran away with it.

Dittmer had a great swim in finals - dropped 5 seconds and got her OT cut.

Phelps looked good winning his 100 free B final. 3rd fastest overall and just .01 behind 2nd.

Neither swam against SMU, but Henry is competing in the Grand Prix and looks solid. I don't understand why Henry would not be swimming collegiately at this point since we have yet to swim a meet that matters (and won't for another 6 weeks).

HUGE HUGE swim out of Cammile Adams at the Grand Prix tonight. Wins the 400 IM, beats Katie Hoff, under American record pace through 200. Freaking WOW. And you know they aren't even remotely tapered coming out of winter training. This young lady ought to be pumped x 10 after that performance.

If there was a 4 x 400IM relay at NCAAs A&M might win by a 100 yards. We are SO strong in the 4IM. I saw the first 200 of Camille's swim. I knew she would give up some ground on breaststroke but she beat Hoff on the last 100.

Just wow for Adams. Didn't Phelps say he wasn't swimming the 400 IM anymore? Glad he decided otherwise.

Tonight's final in the 200 IM should be epic.

Whoa. Just saw the top three in the 800: Sarah Henry (8:40), Maureen McLaine (8:46), and Ashley Adams (8:48) with the legend Janet Evans (8:49) pulling in for 4th!

Not sure how those times are for the girls, but pretty solid results.

Edit: looks like Cammile declared false start.

Larson 2nd in 100 breast. Nice swim to finish behind Soni. Great to see so many Aggie girls swimming tonight.

Adams is ON FIRE. A pool record in Austin is no joke.

Her time coverts to 1:51.68. Hosszu won the 200 fly at NCAA's in 1:51.69. That is STUPID fast for Jan. 15.

Pavlin swam a nice 200 IM. But she was DQ'd and I didn't see it. Sogar on the hand was DQ'd for clearly going past vertical on her back to breast turn.

I have to tell you Phelps is incredible. He won the B final 100 breast, finished 3rd in 100 back just behind Grevers, and won the 200 IM easily over Lochte. These events were all back to back. It is really different to see him swim in person than on TV.

I didn't stay for the "fast" heat of 800 free. They saved the fastest seeded 8 for finals tonight. But Henry ended up 6th, Mclaine was 9th.

The Aggie girls were impressive. It was a great decision to bring the girls to this meet. The big crowd was very supportive of the A&M girls. We are extremely deep in 400 IM, 200 fly and distance freestyle. Larson and Dittmer are strong in breaststroke. Very solid in backstroke.

I was wondering if they were gonna do that. So I guess my previous post can be ignored. It looks like they still finished solid races. Great meet for the ladies! Adams swims are unbelievable.

Camille's 200 fly would have been the 10th fastest in the world last year and fastest American (just ahead of Hersey). Her 400 IM would have been 14th fastest in the world, and 4th fastest American behind Beisel, Leverenz and Maya Dirado (?). I assume Camille was not rested so her times look particularly good against tapered best of 2011 times.

Outstanding swims....

There's absolutely zero chance they were rested. Bultman follows the same training plan every year. If he was going to rest them and have them get trials cuts it would be at the time trials on the Sundays after Big 12's and NCAA's. This happens every four years like clockwork.

As a collegiate coach, there is no reason whatsoever to rest kids the second week of January -- much less for a non-collegiate meet. I can promise you there is no way, no how he did this time.

VERY impressive swims by the ladies.

have the girls been doing any LC training? not being rested at all makes their swims darn impressive, but not having the full effect of LC training is another impressive point to add. the difference in conditioning required between SC & LC is huge, and could be something else to look forward to come Trials.

Probably a safe bet they've done some significant long course training. The Rice meet was swam long course as were prelims at the Tennessee Invite too. That said, those folks our girls were beating this weekend have probably been doing a lot more LC training than we have.

Great video of Camille's 200 fly swim below. Nice interview of her by Rowdy right after the race. She answers their questions between huge breaths of air!
