Look for the debut of a few new Aggie athletes this weekend.

Ameer Webb - JUCO sprinter from California. He should be in contention for the 60 and 200 both this weekend and the rest of the year.

Henry Lelei - JUCO distance runner from Africa. He could break the school mile record this weekend and be a force in distance races all year.

Deon Ledore - Freshman 400 runner from Trinidad. Don't know much about him but he is listed as part of the 4x400 team and has a PR of 46.50 (not bad for a freshman).

There guys look like they could help be part of another elite team this year.

Kamaria Brown running on the women's side as well. Believe this is her first time out.

Aggie men lead 43-35 through 7 finals.

LSU women still lead 45.5 to 42.5 through 8 finals.

Ameer Webb also wins the 200. Very impressive runner.

For what might be a "down" year for T&F, I am very impressed by the result vs. a highly ranked LSU team.

Nothing wrong with a 4:04 mile. I am sure he is gonna get that record.

Coming from a state champion shot putter and my brother used to be a thrower here at A&M, I was extremely disappointed in the men's shot put. A heptathlete did better than a thrower!

maybe the thrower is injured

hey canadain, my brother threw discus for the ags. Josh. Who is your bro?

His name was josh too. Was in the team around 06 and 07 I think. He always said the coach focused so much on strength that he never even worked with my brother because he couldn't bench 350. These guys now look huge and slow and unexplosive.

I think you might have gotten some bad info on the heptathlete bettering a true thrower. I was there and watched every toss and the Aggie heptathlete came in last. Ag throwers finished 2-3-4, in addition to the hept. at 6th.

I'm guessing the throws coach knows what he is doing.

You're right, the thower must have passed him up later after I left. Either way, the throwing was very disappointing. As far as the coach, I wouldn't say he knows what he's doing except for javelin. That is the only thing I can think of us having any decent success in a long time.

The hep guy's best throw was 11.62, the shortest throw by our three other guys was 12.86

That may be because Henry doesn't want to compete for good shot put throwers scholarship wise.

We recruit top javelin throwers. We don't recruit shot put guys. The throwers have always seemed to improve while they have been at A&M.

jt2hunt & canadianAg:

I believe I had the pleasure of being on the team with both your brothers. My years were 2003-2007. Am I right on both counts?

I'm not sure how long you have followed T&F here, but Juan DeLaGarza has been coaching all throws here for MANY years, and we have had VERY good shot and discus throwers under his watch. I will say that more of those came before Pat Henry got here, but that may have more to do with how Henry distributes the scholarship money than coaching. DeLaGarza is one of the best all around throws coaches in the country.

Tolga hanging out with Josh Ralston, 4 time All-American in the discus (2nd place in 2003).

Ralston only got second to Carl Myerscough of Nebraska who had already tested positive for steroids in Europe before coming to the states. Apparently the NCAA doesn't acknowledge positive tests from other organizations. One of the biggest human beings I've ever seen in person.

From Wikipedia:

Carl Myerscough
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Carl Myerscough (pronounced Myers/co) (born 21 October 1979 in Hambleton, Lancashire) is an English athlete. He specialises in the Shot put event and is the British record holder as of 2006.
In 1999, Myerscough's record was tarnished when he tested positive for "a cocktail of banned substances"[1] and was subsequently banned from competing for two years, and banned for life from the Olympics. He has always denied knowingly taking drugs, however.
In 2002 he broke the British indoor shot put record and in 2003, the outdoor record. Both records were previously held by Geoff Capes since the late 1970s. Myerscough has improved his distances since then—his current personal best is 21.92 metres.

^^^Lest we cast stones, let us not forget that the best swimmer on our men's swim team was hit with a positive test last summer...

That dude's HUGE. When you compare those guys to like a Randy Matson, it's unbelievable the difference in shot-putting since then. Can you imagine if Matson had access to the same juice they have these days? He would've shot 90 feet.

The point is, we've had success in other throws. We also had K.C. Onwuchekwa get 4th in shot put in 2005.

Yup. Coach DeLaGarza knows his stuff.
