Texas A&M girls will have two medley relay teams that could finnish in two of the top three spots tommorow night. First and third would be a great start. Hopefully some of the girls will be rested to get an NCAA cut.

while that is very possible, and would be a great accomplishment, it would not matter for points, since only one relay per team can score and the A & B relays will be in separate heats.

Our A relay should be legit. Whoever does win that relay will be ranked top 5 in the country almost guaranteed. We need the anchor leg to bring it; I'd be shocked if we don't have the lead heading into the freestyle.

It would be great to get a win there too because the 800 relay might pose some problems because of our injury issues. I'm curious to see who shows up on it other than McLaine (who is a given).

This meet will be decided on the last day again. Should be fun.

Exciting times! Last Big 12 meet. I love it!

A bit of role reversal from last year. Texas will be without their best diver (missing Jaele cost us the meet last season).

Good point Blastoff, I'd also say that last year on the womans side our team was maybe a little young. With gained experience I think they'll do a lot better this year, looking forward it!!

The men's side looks to be interesting as well, does anyone know where Eric Friedland (texas mens team) has been this year or did he redshirt to try his best for OT's?

Looking forward to seeing what the mens team does, just never know what's going to happen with the way they approach the season Vs. their taper.

Friedland has been swimming. Best time in the conference in the 100 breast, I do believe. 54.0.

Can never tell what's going on in Austin with who's been swimming what meets and why.

I'm sure that you all saw this, but Woody Joye transfered to Arizona. Gives Boris one less competitor for a possible 100 fly conference title. Should be down to him, freshman from Mizzou, Caskey (who's having a great year), and probably Cragin on a double with the 100 back.

What's the story with Joye? I'm a bit surprised he can compete for Arizona immediately.

I am hearing a few interesting things about Texas swimming (men's side). The "pros" are largely gone from Eddie's practices now. Most of the post-grads still in Austin are swimming for TXLA. I saw Hansen at a TXLA workout. Guys like Christian Schurr too.

But that's a different issue.

Who is swimming the medley relay for the girls other than Breeja? Is it Simpson, McElhany, Dittmer? What has happened with Miller this year? Wasn't she on the school record 200 medley relay last year?

Well considering she had one of, if not THE fastest 50 fly split at NCAAs last year (23.00), I don't see them taking her off the 200 medley.

Miller will most definitely be on there. She just didn't swim on it at the invite. The question is which leg.
SpicewoodAg

Miller wasn't on the fastest 200 medley relay this year (according to best times on aggieathletics.com). But based on last year she absolutely should be.

That frees McElhany for the free leg?

Very impressive 800 free relay by the men. I think it is easily a team record and some great racing.

The women's 800 was OK. Latone's lazy finish into the wall almost gave 2nd to Missouri.

Terrific win by the girls in the 200 medley relay. I didn't see it but it looked like Paige Miller absolutely blasted Amundsen. A&M went into freestyle with a 1.8 sec lead over Texas.

Didn't see the men's medley relay either, but it looks like Feigen blasted Troskot in the last leg on an otherwise very good swim by the Ags.

Agree. Both relays by the men were terrific. Feigen was 18.8. That blasts most people in that event.

Latone went out too fast but it doesn't matter. She did her job and got us second. We were not going to win that race by any stretch. Riefenstahl is right on time with her annual February swoon and Gingrich was eh too.

Miller was sick at the invite which was the only reason she didn't swim it there. She obviously isn't sick now -- holy moly that was a monster swim. And for the crap we've talked about sprint free, that 22.1 at the end wasn't too shabby. We would have won PAC-10's in this race. That says it all. If Tennessee did a full blown taper in this race at SEC then we might have a shot at first in this thing at NCAA's. I know we can be faster than we were tonight.

The middle (Larson, Miller) of the girls medley relay is likely best in nation. Incredible swims tonight.

My problem with Latone's leg was the last five yards. Yes her 51.51 100 split was fast and she was probably fading quickly, but those last few strokes looked like a coast. But we got 2nd so that's goodness. If not for Bispo's split, Texas would have been in trouble.

Who would have guessed MU beats tu in that relay?

Looking forward to tomorrow. The men have to be fired up after their swims tonight. We'll see tu's women get the 200 free relay. How much damage can A&M do in the 500? McLaine's flat start 200 was faster than Gingrich's relay split.

LOB - Tennessee claims to have not been tapered for SEC's.

Then again...has a college team ever in the history of swimming admitted to resting for a meet before NCAA's?

Looks like a few great swims today - especially that womens MR.

With the men being so close to the A cut in both relays are they expected to TT them? Are they comfortable where those times put them?
5-Doubt
How long do you want to ignore this user?
It probably depends. Once all of the conference results (or at least a majority of them) they'll probably make a judgement call on whether or not to time trial the relays. IMO, they are close enough to A cuts that they probably will not have to.
AGBlastoff
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Both of those times would have been invited last year. Men's swimming nationwide is probably on a down cycle this season (versus women, who are on an up cycle), so I'd guess they're comfortable. They get to see ACC before they swim, and Big Ten shortly after. Only conference left of note is Pac 12 men next week.

2 medley would have won ACC, 4th in Big Ten. Sitting 7th as we speak (I believe) with Pac 12 left to go, but 2 of the 6 already ahead of them are Pac 12 teams. 13 usually get the invite.

800 free relay would have been 2nd in Big Ten and ACC both. 2 from SEC were faster already. So they sit 5th in that, I do believe. Should be comfortably in.

In other words, I doubt they'll waste the energy time trialing.

BTW - I learned something about Woody Joye. Turns out he was saved last season by Eddie. The team wanted him gone. But Eddie tried to turn him around. Not sure what made Joye such a problem, but it wasn't destined to be. It will be interesting to see if he is a good fit at Arizona.
AGBlastoff
How long do you want to ignore this user?
So far Arizona has said they've seen none of the problems that Woody was having at Texas. Sometimes, kids need a change of scenery. Then again, sometimes we don't see kids' true colors until they settle in and the honeymoon is over.

Probably a worthwhile risk for Hansen whether or not it works out.

Not the whole team wanted him gone. But perhaps that's why he eventually left/was sent packing.

MU doesn't seem to know how to run the Meet Manager software. Last night the events were all listed for Wednesday 2/22 but in the wrong order. The dates are correct today and the events look correct, but they still show garbage MU content instead of the Hy-tek blank page.

They had the wrong swimmers in the live results for the men's 800 free relay last night. They had Texas' swimmers on our list. I don't know how they can screw that up since the names all come from the Team Manager files the teams supply.
AGBlastoff

Does anyone know how to run HyTek live results??

They've got live results programs in Europe that blow MM out of the water.
SpicewoodAg

A lot of FINA events use Omega timing systems and Omega software. Hy-tek owns the rest of that market. I used to run the Meet Manager software as a volunteer for TXLA meets a few years ago. It is beastly software, though it would be hard to make it simple.

I just think Live Results looks like it was written 15 years ago. And Missouri seems to be confused by the whole thing.
AGBlastoff
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Spicewood - there are other programs used in other countries. Omega and HyTek have the market cornered...in the United States. Much better programs are used across the pond by LEN federations.

Among other things, if you enter your team/national records, the live results will compile every team/national record broken in the meet (even from multiple nations), along with meet/conference/whatever records.
SpicewoodAg

Blastoff - OK. Just never seen that stuff. Hy-tek has the US market completely locked up. Omega only gets used for super high profile stuff.

Back to the meet....

Looks like tonight will be:

Women:
- Texas easily wins the 200 free relay but point wise shouldn't hurt much because we should be 2nd
- 500 free should be a fun race to watch. I think Camille and McLaine go 1-2 and everyone else fights for the rest. We'll see if Gingrich has anything to show when it counts.
- Texas will hurt us in 50 free but we'll score points (just not top 3).
- I like where we stand in 200 IM, Pavlin and Dittmer swam well in Austin unrested and I think they will swim well tonight.

Men:
- Texas will assert itself big time in the 500 and 200IM.
- A&M could scare Texas in the 200 free relay.

I assume the "B" swimmers don't score?

Are we missing our Aussie diving girls since Nel is MIA for Olympic prep at home?

Answered my own question about the divers. Jaele and Potvin are present (and diving right now on the 1M).

'B' swimmers do not score. Potvin is Canadian, not Australian.

Huge #8 spots by Conner and Medrano. I was not that optimistic about our team chances but with us snatching up these last A final spots and the eggs laid in the 500 free (Riefenstahl 12 seconds off her seed time; Tucker 9 seconds off...WTF?!) we might have a puncher's chance even without Henry and Ibanez.

We are doing dirty, dirty things to the Longhorns on the women's one-meter. If all five of our girls are on the scoring team...all I can say is wow.

My bad on Potvin. I knew that - just had a brain breakdown.

Texas only has one diver in the 1M. We have five, and we are 1-2-3 after prelims. Texas is 7th. Jaele behind Potvin, a bit of a surprise. But Jaele missed two of her dives.

Losing the free relays to Texas should cost us just 12 points assuming we finish 2nd. Piling up individual points should be more meaningful. So we are in the hunt for the women's title. My guess is that after prelims this morning Brackin is nervous. Tucker's 500 was terrible as you pointed out. I don't know what her heat was like - whether she badly misjudged what it would take to make the A final or whether she was just bad. She was out pretty fast with a 1:52 at the 200.

Simon Frank broke the school record in the 200 IM this morning.

Texas is swimming very tired, men and women. Texas men usually have 4-5 guys totally unrested for Big 12's. This year, they've got about 10.
SpicewoodAg
How long do you want to ignore this user?
AG
Blastoff - not surprised the Texas men are swimming through this meet. Feigen, Dax, etc. need to be in top form for Trials and it makes no sense to rest for Big12s.

But why would so many of their women be unrested? Most don't have their NCAA cuts. And only a few are legitimate contenders at Trials. Bispo's 1:43 200 last night was near her lifetime best. Who on that team can risk not making NCAAs?
