From what I've been seeing on her Twitter account, Janelle's knee has been killing her. Hope that it holds up through the season. Her just being there at the 4 line more than anything slides everyone down and gives us chances to split at 5/6.

JC is hurt AGAIN!! That poor girl can't catch a break no where, no way, no how. Might be out till the tournament and maybe beyond, day by day. And Christina was definitely not at top speed against that gal from ND. That one time she slipped there were cold chills going down my spine. But she is definitely a fighter. Monty or somebody needs to do something to keep Sun from cramping in the third sets since she has that propensity to do that to herself consistently.

We were not competitive at 4, 5 and 6. Can't help but be better next year.

I beleive the women's team signed a 5 star recruit for next year. I don't know much about her but I am certain she will help this lineup for next year.

On the other hand, consider this - we still win 40% of the matches at the 4-5-6 lines. When even one of those three girls can win in the bottom half of the lineup...imagine the pressure it takes off of the top 3. It just takes Lauren, Janelle/Janine, or Sheri getting on a little bit of a hot streak (like Lauren was at the beginning of the season: started 9-4, then ended the season losing 9 of 10) and we're sweet 16 bound.

Does anyone know if Crisitina is a Junior or a Sophomore? Her bio shows as being a junior but I didn't see her playing as a Freshman anywheres.

Christina had a year of schooling in Spain, Howard found her and recruited her to come to Maryland. Then she followed him here.

Can you beat that? Christina knocks it out of the park as we leave the Big 12! Player of the year and Newcomer as well. First time ever same player wins both in the same year. Thank God athletics is NOT like the Nobel Peace Prize when it comes to selecting who should win. Either that or there's a lot more intelligent Tennis coaches than there are people in Sweden.

I ran into Mark the other day and he told me the recruiting class coming in next year will be off the charts. One blue chipper has already signed and that there are some others that are coming that are top notch as well. Hope the girls can finish strong this year, but sounds like next year will be even better.

Glad to hear it!!! After next year, the top 3 will be gone.

Chapa, correction to my earlier post about Christina's classification and why no tennis her freshman year. She was recruited and came to Maryland as a fish, but was ineligible to play tennis that year for some reason, not sure exactly. She played soccer instead and started on the courts her sophmore year at MD. This information comes from a more reliable source.

Thanks for the info Signem. So that ineligibility knocks a year of playing I assume? I am just wishing for an extra year of her top notch play.

No can do on the extra year Chapa. But from the reports being filtered through the courts Christina will be challenged considerably to hang on to the #1 line next year. She'll probably hold the position but not because she wins it by default. She'll be put to a few major tests of her ability. Next year if the things Howard has working fall into place the likes of Stanford, UCLA, Florida, Georgia Tech, Notre Dame will pale in comparison to what we will put on the court. If we have only 400 to 500 spectators at the courts there for our matches there will be a lot of people in CS missing out on a spectacle of monumental proportion.

Wow!!!! I am a huge tennis fan and a player. I wish I could be there for all the home matches versus the SEC. I will definitely try to make it down there for the Florida and Georiga matches. Are we hosting the SEC championships per chance?

Can't tell if serious?

There's probably some stuff with internationals going on it sounds like, but as far as Americans, we've signed a blue-chip in Anna Mamalat, 11th-ranked prep in the country. Played and beaten some very good players...picked us over Florida and Georgia, among others.

Who else?

I am not one to give full credit to a team that doesn't win a championship, but I must give full credit to the year the women's tennis team had this year. Anyone who watched them play this year knew they had to win the dubs point and win at 1,2& 3 singles against any decent program. Coach Joffe is doing an amazing job so Congrats to you Coach Joffe! Also congrats to our true Aggie Coach Weaver who also deserves some of the credit as well!

Blastoff, I'm deadly serious but just like Bobby always kept his cards close to his chest concerning upcoming talent, Howard does the same thing. But the women will have a full complement of players next year (8 instead of 7) nobody could have predicted what happened to Dane this year and the depth we'll have will be one to make many programs drool with envy.

Since you are using "a deck of cards" as your choice of words let's hope that Joffe is a much better poker player and has a much better "hand" than Kleinecke ever did!

Is it my system or can anybody get a "live" feed on the video of Christina playing right now. She won the first set, but the Georgia website doesn't update like AggieAthletics does. I'm having to go out and come back in continually to see what the score is.

Cristina advanced, won in three over a Bama girl. No result yet from doubles.

2010 Champ from Georgia was upset in the first round.

Klegou lost in three to Nick Scholz (9-16) from Ole Miss.

Signem

The last female AA would be Helga Viera in 2007 when she made a run to the Sweet 16 in singles at the championships. Anybody notice that Joffe is only returning Christina, Wen, and Naz next year? Goes back to what D2 fighter said earlier about putting some strong recruits on the court as fish. Somebody also mentioned earlier that Wen may be playing down in the lineup if things fall into place.

That would be such a huge shift if Wen moved down to the 4 or 5 line...imagine what that would do for the confidence of the girls at the top? Have a girl that was 20-4 at the #3 line playing 4's all year long?

$$$

Hopefully the new doubles teams gel well. Lauren and Sheri had their issues in singles (though Lauren was forced to player higher than she should have at #4), but they were solid at #3 doubles, and that will be missed.

Yikes! Looks like the incoming class will be 4 person large (all having junior ITF rankings). These are huge! There's a possibility that Sun Wen might not even be in the top 6!

Now each team is only allowed 8 schollies. Does that mean someone will be leaving the team?

Well I don't want to spoil the surprise (there's no official release yet which makes me think a couple haven't been cleared by NCAA yet)

But from what I know...
1. Mammalat of course
2. A transfer Joffe recruited during his days at UM
3 and 4 have played for their country in Fed Cup

One new one has signed, Stefania Hristov per Tennis Recruiting Network. She is 8-5 versus Blue Chip recruits.
