It's a golden era for the women's program. Near NCAA record one night, an American record the next -- out of different girls. Enjoy it folks. Most don't ever get the chance.

New American and NCAA record for Breeja in the 200 in prelims. Astounding swim.

No reason for her to swim finals tonight.

How will Diego Suarez react to his training partner's recent success? That's what I'm dying to know.

Darn good question. Because almost no one swam well except Omar?

They left for a few reasons.

Everyone was hacking from the poor air quality.
They were given 4000 yards before each session.
Nobody was swimming well.

The air quality was pretty bad. I was coughing within an hour of arriving.

So Henry breathed that air for her school record setting 1650. 66 lengths, maybe 5 breaths per length or 330+ breaths.

Are you kidding me?

I think it makes Larson's and Henry's swims that much more impressive.

It sounds like you are trying to spin the boys going home as something positive.

College Swimming.com has the updated rankings on times in all the events and the A&M girls have captured most of the top ten spots in each event. I understand that they will change a lot in the next couple of weeks, but it is fun to see the girls saturating the top rankings.

Seems like the men have had huge drops these past eight years in November and almost never swim faster in February. I wish they would install a panic meter on texags so the coaches realize the situation they're in.

I'll be debbie downer here. The situation the men are in is the same as the women's soccer team. Coach G. will get past round of 16 once every ten years and their run will end there.

Our men's swim team will finish between 10-20 in the NCAAs for the rest of our lives. But that's it. Our magic formula of never swimming fast until February is part what makes us what we are.

Our women on the other hand kick some serious ass year round. We compete with Cal, Stanford, Florida, Georgia and anyone else. We left behind in our wake the girls in Austin. And now we set American and NCAA records, win gold medals in the Olympics, and put lots of girls in semis or finals at Olympic Trials.

Why are we satisfied with our mens program as is?

Here we go again....Boy why are our guys so bad in November!

Why don't we just fire Coach holmes and input one of our up-and-cumming forum bloggers. We keep coming back to the old selfishness of the bloggers want to see fast swimming every year at this time.

I think if we just let things lie the men will swim fast. Bloggers get a life please.

If I remember correctly, one of these people is a parent who's kids couldn't make the team at A&M. Doesn't seem unbiased to me.

Que up the responses..."We are allowed to criticize the coaches , but you are not allowed to criticize my stupifidity"

Cool! Someone has finally said it.
Now we can move forward with class -without regurgitating the obvious nonsense.

Ok! You called me on it.
No we can't.

No child of mine tried to swim for A&M.

I don't REALLY care about swimming fast in November. But we only swim fast enough in February (and March) to finish 10-20 at NCAAs every year. We are in the news for 4-5 days. Don't you get it? No one cares nor pays attention to our mens team except a few dozen Aggies. Ultimately that means recruits. Until we recruit top 10 caliber swimmers we won't have a consistent top 10 team.

Yes I understand you...but I really do think recruits look at how fast teams swim at the end of the year as you know. The main reason swim teams shave in November is to achieve NCAA times. Some of the girls are good enough to make their times early and it sure looks like they did have some girls make it...There are many other teams that don't shave in Nov/Dec...so lets not get down on our boys just yet (remember how bad football was last year?)

Just going off last year's qualifying times and with the fact that there should be 6 or 7 more individual spots in each event this year with the new qualifying I would say the following women are "in" at this point, with Benjamin and Miller being on the edge as those times would have been 31 and 33 on the 100 back list last year:

Adams, Henry, Larson (A Cuts)
Benjamin (100 back)
Ibanez (50/200 free)
McElhany (200 fly)
McGregor (200 breast)
McLaine (500/mile)
Miller (100 back)
Simpson (200 back)

I would expect some more who performed well at Invite to make the leap up at SEC's. I won't even discuss the new relay stuff because it hurts my addled brain.

I think it was pretty cool that Breeja, Cammille, and Bultman attended (or at least were nominated for) the Golden Goggle awards. That's a very select group of swimmers!

Spice,

I don't think I said anything that gave a positive spin to their leaving. However, putting the guys in such a tired state AT the meet may not have been the best thing for team morale.

Do I agree with them leaving? I certainly understand why they did.

Do I think they should taper/rest in Nov/Dec? That would require a change in their training program. I don't know if it would be a good or bad change.

I'm more concerned with Schweitzer missing the meet. I hope to see him improve this season.

I think it is great that there are new faces coming up and rising to qualify for NCAAS. Not only the freshmen, but also to girls that unfrotuntely did not qulify the meet last year. It's great to know these girls will have months of solid training before they actually begin to do a real taper/rest meet.
