Freshman split a 21.3 for the UF women.

So far Tennessee is kicking butt on the women's side. Those diving points are big!

No splits available....annoying.

I am no longer so confident we will beat Tennessee. They beat us in both the medley and the 800 free relay. I am a bit puzzled by the relay lineups. Not sure why Ibanez didn't swim the medley. Wouldn't have been enough to win though. We needed almost a full second. And why Oliver on the 800 free? She hung in there for 150 then Bohunky pulled away. Henry didn't gain any ground - at least looking on the live stream.

Tennessee hurt us in diving in a big way.

Georgia's free relay was damned impressive.

Mens medley not impressive. But the 800 relay was good. Dalton needed just .05 for 3rd.

Maybe Steve is trying to qualify more girls by using different relay lineups? Either way, UT looks very good.

I know it is early. But it looks like the girls aren't that rested.

The 200 MR time was very close to the A&M record. They should get it at NCAAs. The 800 FR was 2 secs off the record - again they should get it at NCAAs. That's a relay when times should drop a lot with a full taper. Maybe without splits to look at we really were pretty fast - but not in comparison to the scalding fast Georgia.

Tennessee pulled this crap last year. Go back and look at their NCAA results.

Ibanez can't swim every relay and like you said it wouldn't have helped.

Who else would you have rather had on the 800 free? The first three legs are no-brainers but the fourth seems up for grabs to me.

Tennessee has the reigning SEC diver of the year and a second girl with solid NCAA experience. They were going to make it tough on us in the diving well from the outset. Our swimming depth is what we need to get past them.

Georgia's free relays are always impressive at SEC's. If memory serves me correctly, their old school record was swam there as well.

You make an excellent point about the 800 free relay times. There's no way the top three are completely rested. That said, I'm pretty happy with a 1:44.1 out of Henry on the anchor.

I thought the guys responded well at the end of the 800 free relay. Only Florida swam faster on the back half (and barely).

PMS dropped over a second from last year (1:36-1:34.8) and Dalton went from 1:35.0-1:34.4.

Now that I've seen the splits.....

Henry's leg in the 800 was very good. It's just that the other girls were very strong (Gendron split 1:42.9).

Breeja wasn't really outsplit - Hannis had a 0.01 reaction time to Breeja's 0.23. Natalie Hinds (from Midland TX) had an amazing close for Florida. Ibanez on the 200MR would have pushed Florida to 3rd instead of 2nd tie. But Steve made a choice and that's OK.

On the women's 800FR, Oliver had the 9th fastest 200 free time for the Ags this year. So that's why I'm surprised she was on the relay.

Diving killed us. Missouri put three scorers in 3M for 47 pts. I know MU won't be significant in most of the swimming events but with 24 divers scoring points our lack of depth will hurt us.

I expect a full day of swimming will get things going for us.

Things should definitely get going with the individual races starting today! I'm excited to see how Sarah Henry goes today.
Diving is the only reason why LSU and MU are in front of us after day 1. They both have 4 divers when we only have 2. Makes a pretty good difference at the end of the day.

Excellent points gentlemen. I'm looking forward to the women's 500 free. Could be one of the event's of the meet. It is loaded up with national teamers especially from Georgia and the Ags.

It is only a guess, before prelims have started. Henry will not match her 4:33 from earlier this season. I just don't think she is rested enough. McLaine swam well last night. She needs 2 secs for an A cut. Should be some really good racing though. Gendron looks really good. And of course Georgia's freestylers are flying.

On the guys' side it should be a big day too. OE and Shaw in the 500. Frank and Wagner in the IM. School records will be falling.

Just looked at the psych sheet. How in the world did Mizzou end up with so many breaststokers and we have none?

Seems the Mens team needs some help. Hoping to attend Saturday finals. Anyone else going?

I'll be there. The Mizzou coached was the breast/IM coach at Arizona before taking the job. He is very knowledgable and can recruit well because of his previous success.

If the women don't get hurt too much by diving we should do some damage to Tennessee today. They have one girl in the top 16 in the 500, and zero in the 200 IM. We have three in the top 8 in the 500 and three in the top 8 (five in top 16) of the 200 IM.

Kinda funny to look at splits. Paige Miller swam just .03 behind Beisel at the 100 mark of the IM. But the back half of that race is not her friend.

We still have a way to go in sprint freestyle.

Can anyone shed some light on the new NCAA qualifying rules? In order to get a relay to NCAAs, 3 individuals must qualify for a A cut and 4 for a B cut? Any restrictions on where these individual qualifiers come from? Example... 2 sprinters (on free relay) and a back stroker (not on free relay) qualify, can we still send the 200 free relay or any relay that we have an A cut in?

Tennessee put only one diver in 1M springboard finals. But three will score points :-(

Ags have St. Germain in 3rd going into finals.

Tpnick,

I believe there are no restrictions on where the qualifiers come from. These new rules are confusing and I may have it wrong but I don't think the qualifiers have to be on the same relay/stroke.

Outstanding swim by Dalton! But Troskot's 0.86 reaction time was the slowest in the field. Last guy off the block.

Girls pick up huge points in the 500 and 200IM. Now 1 pt. behind UGA. We'll give up some ground in the 50 and diving (vs Tenn).

You're right Spice. Dalton has been the KEY player for the men in this meet.
Troskot's start - wow - absolutely last off the blocks. Made 9th place impossible!
