Just signed up my 10 year old. She is a good, not great, swimmer but wants to get better. Any feedback is appreciated.

I've worked it. Always had positive feedback. The kids are separated by their experience but still within age groups. There are numerous coaches or counselors to give attention to individuals. Lots of activities outside of swimming to keep a 10 year old entertained.

They might be working on the swiming pool this summer.

I never went to the A&M swim camp, but I went to Michigan when I was 10, Texas at 12, and I think one more (can't remember) around that age. I loved it - definitely a great experience for the kids if they want to go. Just like anything, the kids whose parents forced them to go didn't like it. Pretty much all the big camps are the same for that age kids.

I also helped run a water polo camp while at a&m and the kids seemed to have a similar experience.

Had several go. The feedback on the A&M camp versus the Texas camp:

A&M camp: more "training instruction." More "play-time" activities not related to swimming.
Texas camp: more "fantasy camp" style. They parade out the Olympians, autographs, race the Olympian kind of stuff. Still get instruction, obviously, but more focused on getting kids excited about swimming and Texas swimming than the A&M camp.

Just the feedback I've gotten from lots of kids. Haven't been to either one, so don't shoot the messenger.

My two sons have each gone to A&M camp twice. I thought it was an excellent experience and they did too. I have watched a bit of the Texas camp from the stands.

The A&M camp is very strong on coaching and technique. Lots of attention from the coaches, which include A&M coaches, some hired help, and A&M swimmers. They seem to try very hard to build a coach-to-swimmer relationship. My kids knew by name every coach that worked with them. My kids saw more Bultman and Boyd than Holmes.

As a parent, I was also very happy how they run the camp - the security, food, activities, etc.

The Texas camp seems to be less personal in general. I saw workouts with 100+ kids and just a few coaches on deck.

Thank you for the feedback. I think more personal instruction would benefit her. She has been swimming year round now for about a year and a half and her times have dropped dramatically over the last six months.

The camp will be her reward for all of her hard work. We gave her other choices, but she said she wants to do whatever it takes to get her "champ" times. I just want her to have a good time and a positive experience.
