Interesting to see where the invited cut lines come with the new qualification rules.

When do the invited cut lines show up? How do they know how many girls with B cuts are swimming in different events?

The invited cut lines will be posted on Wednesday. Looks like the Aggies should have a pretty full team!

Thanks for posting!

Looks like we are best positioned to final/score points in:

medley relays
breaststroke
200 fly
400 IM
500 free
1650 free
100 back

We seem to be loaded again in the 200IM with four girls scoring points like last year. We seem to be close to team records in all the relays too. The girls have a good chance to place in the top 4 and bring home some hardware.

SEC - We have two girls in the top 24 of 200IM, but none in the top 8. I hope I'm wrong, but I don't see 4 girls scoring in 200 IM. There are some outstanding swimmers in the field.

But maybe you were talking about top 4 overall. I agree that seems VERY possible. If the free relays can move up a bit that becomes an even better story. Our divers will not likely score much. I think we will only have at most two divers at NCAAs. Only St. Germain on springboard and Mcauley on platform.

SwimSwam is predicting the line will be at 40-41 per event.

SwimmingWorld ran the numbers and has it going to line 39.

Texas A&M is listed with a faster time in every relay over Texas. Considering the stable of sprinters in Austin, that shows considerable improvment on our freestyle relays which are close to team records. We currently have 13 girls with individual invites and at least one girl who should be very close.

We had several girls score points in the B final last year. Some of them should have an opportunity to move into the A final. It will be interesting to see how we compare to Georgia in a national meet.

SwimSwam "scored" the psych sheet from yesterday for the top 16 swimmers and A&M finishes second to Georgia. Without diving of course.

Zones for diving starts next Monday. We will see if either St. Germain or Macaulay makes it through.
Top 4 is absolutely doable. Has not been done since 2008 I believe.

Our lack of depth in diving is surprising. We seem to have no one behind these two. Jessie is really not a springboard diver. I know Connolly is injured. We had Kate Hanson on the roster earlier in the year. What happened to her?

We have only been top four once and it indeed was in 2008. That was the year I feel we truly became a player at the NCAA meet. By that I mean we went from being happy to be top 10 and occasionally beating a 'power' school to BEING a power school. We beat Cal that year for the four spot and the last team trophy.

Also, how the **** were we 10th in the dual meet poll again? I mean seriously? One loss to an Auburn team that, at this point, looks like it was rested some during the dual meet season (and it shouldn't have mattered if not for a couple of bad breaks; we would've beaten them anyway).

The dual meet poll has always been stupid. Never more so than this year.

It seems like the girls have a lot of freshmen that qualify for NCAA's every year nationally. Does anyone break out the numbers by class? The boys seem to take a year or two before they qualify. I guess we noticed that trend this summer at Trials.

So lets hear everyone's pick to win. I'm going with Cal.

I'm going with Georgia. Unless Cal pulls out another clutch meet like they did last year, I think Georgia has it. They really have to improve their medley relays though, otherwise it could be tight. Should be a very exciting meet!

Where's the fun in sports if you can't be a homer...TEXAS A&M!

I'm picking Georgia. They want it. Their freestyle is incredibly strong and they will pile up points in the freestyle events and relays. Schmitt will be back to her Olympic form. Cal and A&M fight for 2nd. Minnesota 4th.

I really like Minnesota and they have very good free relays...but even with all of those qualifiers I have a hard time believing they can finish 4th. Just not enough individual qualifiers, and I know a few of their Canadians are tapering for Trials in April instead (Kierra Smith has said as such via a recorded phone interview on a Canadian site).

Blastoff - I was relying on your guys scoring of Minn to pick 'em 4th!

Ags had tons of qualifiers last year, but many weren't in scoring position. Much better story this year.

Interesting scratch from the top qualifier in the 1650. Now Sarah Henry is the top seed in both the 500 and 1650.

The Ags should be in the running for THREE NCAA champions this year - Breeja, Cammille, and Sarah.

Dive results are listed live on DiveMeets.com and on the NCAA site for the Zone D competition at the University of Houston. The boys start at 11:00 am and the girls are tonight at 4:30 pm. Good luck Ags!!

How many divers will make it out of Zone D? It just says that the top 18 in the prelims make the zone final. Is it top 8 or...?
SpicewoodAg
How long do you want to ignore this user?

7 women and 8 men will advance from Zone D.

No Aggie men punched their ticket today. McLiney finished 13th. He almost failed his fifth dive. A more normal set of scores on that dive would have given him 40 more points or so and he would have finished 5th or 6th, very much in the hunt.

Thanks for the info! After further reading it appears the number varies according to previous performances of divers from that zone.

Too bad for the Aggie Men (at least on 1M).

Just like to say that "Other Sports" is a great (if sparsely followed) board. I lurk mostly, but it's so refreshing to not have all of the flaming and pissing matches. The posters here really know their stuff.

Diving selection for NCAAs is confusing (just like swimming but different!). It works according to the chart below:

The first person to advance is the winner of the platform. The next person is the winner of 3M. Then 1M. And so on. If the platform winner also wins 3M then the next person to qualify is the winner of 1M. They keep working in order until they have the number of athletes for that zone.

So if I understand that correctly, it is possible (although unlikely) that the 2nd place platform woman does NOT receive an invite? Wow, I didn't realize that.

H2O - yes it is possible. But it would require someone to win/place high on one board, and do really badly on the other two. Most likely though is that the platform winner will also place high on some other board. Or the 3M winner will also place high in 1M, all of which frees a slot for another diver to advance.

Did Jess Macaulay not end up competing in 3M? On the entry list she was slated to compete in all 3 events

edit: spelled her name wrong. and the event. geez...

Rebecca St. Germain finished 9th in the 3M prelims

She finished 7th in the finals. Any idea if that will be good enough?
