Joffe is a great coach, no doubt. Anyone that says otherwise is just jealous. I think he's got the chops to win a national championship in the near future but doubt he will be here long enough to make that happen.

It is widely known that he has not embraced Aggieland and longs to get back to his Californian roots. His alma mater Pepperdine has a soon to be retiring coach and Joffe will be the favorite for that vacancy. Some of you maroon bleeders will scoff at the notion that he could leave us for Pepperdine and on paper in most sports I would agree. Don't forget that Pepperdine won a men's tennis championship, Is one of the most beautiful places in the country, is the most fertile American tennis recruiting ground, and his alma mater. Don't underestimate the pull of your alma mater – it would be hypocritical for us not to right?

IF Joffe leaves, Hyman will have plenty of great candidates. I agree with all of the positive comments that have been made about Todd Petty at Texas Tech. I do think he has maxed out what you can do with that mentality. Not to take away from the truly unbelievable job he has done there, but winning with overachieving scrappers is a lot different than managing superstars. Joffe is a recruiter & manager of superstars and that is why we are where we are. Petty has a great eye for diamonds in the rough and is an outstanding motivator and developer. Howard is a players coach and Petty is more of a hard-nosed blue-collar type that is very smart about recruiting kids that will fit into his demanding system. Petty IMO is a perfect fit in Lubbock – not sure he would succeed on a bigger stage like A&M.

I respectfully disagree. Getting the maximum potential out of your players makes someone a great coach whether they are coaching jr. high players, scrappers, or superstars. So your saying that if Petty had a stable full of superstars he couldn't win? Just last year TT came to town and beat our ladies.

Yeah John there is no manual to all of this and it's purely just points of view and I see what you are saying. My point is that to win national championships, you can't do it with gritty girls that have been overlooked and have chips on their shoulders and can be pushed a little harder than most.

To win at that level, you need girls that are PREMIUM talents and typically girls like that are not willing to be coached Bobby Knight style. If Coach Petty tried to coach our current team like he coaches his own, it would last about a month before either he got fired or the girls quit. Anyone that has been around and seen the very rah-rah positive and encouraging way Joffe coaches and anyone who has seen Petty's intense, in-your-face style can vouch for that.

I totally agree that getting the most out of players is universally good and I think that Petty is a great coach and light years ahead of Kleinecke, but I'm doubtful his style would translate well to blue chip level players.

We may get to find out in a year or two.

Harry Dunnes comments make sense to me. BCG had great success with blue collar players here but failed miserably at Kentucky

Where are you hearing that Joffe isn't happy here? I have heard quite the contrary. Widely known?

Harry's comments are completely baseless. Is Joffe telling people at his stadium chalk talks that he is just dying to get back to Cali. Please tell us where you are getting this ridiculous information. Maybe Joffe does leave to one of the California schools at some point but to say that he is badly wanting to get back is just something that you have completely made up. Joffe is a very bright person and there is no way that he is telling people in the community that he is reason to get out of here at the first opportunity. Just think about how ridiculous that would be.

I am with you Rodger. You guys give toad boy a lot of crap, but his comments are only slightly more comical than other comments from other usuals on this forum. How well do you guys know Petty? How are you all getting all of this inside information on him? Are you all driving to Lubbock to watch there home matches?

Petty was a high school tennis coach, and one or more of the posters here coached at a school that played him a lot

Petty as a high school coach as if that should count for anything to compare is very comical!

Meant it as they are probably decent friends and still keep in touch. The tennis coaching community is small.

So Petty is telling his friend how good of a coach he now is over the phone and that person is now telling us how good Petty now is as a college coach. Oh I get it!

John Moron's comment about Tech coming down to beat our girls last year as I'd that was some great accomplishment. Joffe did marbles with a horrible team that was left over by Kleinecke. They has 3 players and the rest shouldn't have been giving scholarships to any school at a top 50 program. Petty has done a good job and I am not disagreeing, but theses comments are again completely being pulled out of thin air.

Easy big fella. I agree that TT beating our ladies wasn't much of an accomplishment(other than that being the first time they had beaten us in a very long time). However, if it wasn't a big deal than explain to me the miracles that Joffe worked last year. Finishing third in the big 12 after being picked to finish 3rd?? Also, I dont remember Coach K ever dropping a match to TT and he didn't have Quintanar in the 1 hole. Just saying...It seems to me that after calling me a moron, your statements are kinda contradictory both times. Lastly, I am by no means a TT fan, I do not attend ther matches, and I do not speak with Petty. But if "commenting out of thin air" means that the Internet will back up all of my statements then yes... I was "commenting out of thin air".

Kleinecke never lost to them because they were hardly ever in the rankings because the previous coach was beyond horrible so to say that Kleinecke never had Sanchez at 1 is totally irrelevant. He didn't need a Sanchez at 1 to beat them only a player that was capable of walking in a straight line was sufficient.

Harry Dunce we haven't heard from you. Did Joffe tell you that he is extremely anxious to get back to Pepperdine? Or has it been written in press releases that I must have missed. Please enlighten us of where you are getting this widely known information. I love how you guys try to make it sound like you are wanting the best for the women' s program, but it is so obvious that you really are not at all wanting the best.

Wow, that was about the longest run-on sentence I have ever encountered! So, your trying to say that TT beating us for the first time since 1987(27 matches)has no significance because the former TT coach who was fired 5 years ago wasn't any good? Just trying to make some sense out of your jibberish.

It is somewhat significant, but if you can do simple arithmetic you can see that it wasn't that difficult to do. Please feel free to research the match but I can guarantee you that we won at 1,2,3 singles and lost the remainder of the matches. Sorry that I am not as eloquent with my typing as you are when you say you respectfully disagree or the fact that I am not concerned with grammatical errors. I didn't know that my third grade English teachers was critiquing my typing skills.

Slow down big fella. Now that we have established that the win was "somewhat" significant, you need to give me some examples of how Joffe worked miracles last year.
