I do not have the Heat Sheets yet, so I do not know who will actually be participating in each event. As a result, projected points may change considerably. The projected points are based on best performances thru Sunday, Feb 23.

Will it be Arkansas, Florida, and Texas A&M in a 1, 2, 3 finish in both Men & Women contests?

Good analysis. Hopefully, we can win some events we are not currently projected to win and thereby end up with a higher overall finish!

Otherwise, why have a meet at all !

I think our chances of winning a natty or two are better than SEC titles. We're do for an indoor title.

I plan on going to the meet on Saturday. Anyone else planning on going?

I think the biggest challenge for the Aggies is to score in the middle distance, distance and some field events (800m, mile, 3000m, 5000m,distance medley relay, pole vault, long and triple jumps, high jump). Arkansas have people in every event that could score. While we would dominate the sprints, can we find enough people to score in other events. The other issue is that only 27 athletes would make the team. Selection of the team is key. If you have athletes that can participate in multiple events and score increases your chances of winning the title. The key is to have possible one or two athletes who can score in every event. This is what Arkansas is good at. I agree our chances may be better at national because our stand out athletes are top ranked.
Let hope that the distance and field events athletes can contribute to the team scoring this weekend.

I don't follow track closely, but it seems to me that the projections indicate a down year for our mens and womens teams. Am I missing something?

Not really, both ranked third in the nation. Pretty good for indoor. The national titles are in outdoor.

Below is a list of events and the number of athletes in scoring position (Top 8) for Texas A&M, Florida and Arkansas based on best times and mark leading up this week Championship. The heat sheet are not out yet. Some of the athletes may not be running an event which they are in the Top 8. For eg Deon Lendore Texas A&M has the top time in 200 m and may not run the 200 m but the 400 m. Our strengths are in the sprint events.

The meet includes the top three collegiate men’s programs and five of the top seven collegiate women’s programs.

Jena Hemann is apparently on her way to breaking A&M’s indoor pentathlon record of 4017.

Congrats to Jena Hemann on breaking her indoor pentathlon record. She PR indooors in the hurdles and 800m.
If she was close to her PR indoors in high jump, long jump and shot put, she would have been in the top three
Long jump 5.33m Indoor PR is 5.80m (120 extra points)
High Jump 1.75m Indoor PR is 1.80m (62 extra points)
Shot Put 12.67m Indoor PR is 13.00m (21 extra points)
A total of 209 extra points if she was close to her PR in high jump, long and shot put. She could have ended up with 209 + 4079 = 4288 for second place
I know it is difficult to PR in each event during each competition.
Hope she can still PR in all events at NCAA

Weight Throw: Casey Strong is in 5th place, Ben Skria 11th, Austin Cook 12th
Long Jump: Olabanji Asekun is in 5th place and Jonathan Turner 7th
High Jump: Samuel McSwain and Devion Harris made their first, missed their second, but made their third jumps. Tyler Lee made his first jump but missed the next three and is out. Eleven are still competing.

60H: Wayne Davis advanced (2); Kenneth Minkah, who had not run this year, did not start
Tony Brown of Alabama, [who last year was the best hurdler in the US as a high school junior and is a football signee] did not advance
60m: Shavez Hart advanced but unfortunately, Prezel Hardy (4th in his heat) and Michael Bryan (5th in his heat) did not. There went 10 points and our title hopes out the window.

I agree with you Mid. The performances were disappointed for most part except for a few bright spots like Kamaria Brown, Deon Lendore, Olivia Ekpone.
Really disappointed on our home turf. Many ranked athletes couldn't make the finals.

There were some highlights from today.

MEN:
Devion Harris finished second in the high jump with a 7’ ½” effort. Sam McSwain tied for eighth.
Olabanji Asekum was fifth in the long jump; Jonathan Turner was seventh
Casey Strong finished fifth in the weight throw
Daniel Martin finished in eighth place in the pentathlon

Deon Lendore qualified in the 400m by finishing first.
Aldrich Bailey, Shavez Hart, Prezel Hardy, and Michael Bryan qualified for four of the eight places in the 200m finals Saturday.
In the 60m qualifiers, Hart qualified with the seventh fastest time.
Wayne Davis was second in qualifying for the 60mH.
Josh Hernandez qualified for the 800m. Isaac Spencer qualified for the mile.

WOMEN:
The highlight of the day for the Ags was Kamaria Brown setting a school record in qualifying for the 200m. Ashton Purvis and Olivia Ekpone also advanced in the 200m.

The meet was Arkansas’ to win, both men and women. They have slid about 20 projected points for both men and women teams. A&M’s women have done better about 15 points better than expected; the men about 15 points below what was expected.

Women 3K: Hillary Montgomery had the fifth best time and Grace Fletcher had the sixth best time of participants prior to the SEC meet, which would translate into 7 points if they had finished fifth and sixth. We earned only 4.

Grace and Hillary are projected to finish third and fifth tomorrow in the 5K (they are registered for it). However, they will probably not run and we will “lose” 10 projected points in the race for the championship against Arkansas and Florida.

The good news is an Arkansas runner who was projected to finish second in the 5K, ran the 3K today (finished second). She probably will not run either. Thus, Arkansas will “lose” 8 projected points.

Arkansas will probably counter by running 5 or 6 runners in the 5K. They have a lot of distance runners on both squads.

It is hard to see some of our top SENIORS not make it to the finals in the last home meet of their career It is sad to see them end their home indoor career that way. A few will however go on to NCAA

I sure hope Prezel has a much better performance in the 60m at the NCAAs than he did at the SEC meet. He could get us 10 points at Nationals, which will be greatly needed if we are to have a chance at another trophy.

We may be competing against the same Arkansas and Florida teams for the NCAA title.

Those 60s were amazing. 6.62 fastest qualifier 6.70 misses out!

PJ has been a disappointment for quite a while and expecting him to score at nationals is not a good idea.

He has had one good day all year when he was sick and the coaches made him run anyway. That was one of the first meets and instead of improving upon that he has gone backwards. Hoping he can get it together because he has a ton of potential, but not expecting it at this point.

I agree with HH 100%. PJ has so much potential since he was one of the top recruits. After 4 years he has nothing much to show for his potential except for a few relay titles. He would always have one great meet and then go backwards after that. This is for both outdoors and indoors. I really hope he can get it together because he is so talented. Maybe it is more mental than anything. It shows in some of his races, whenever he gets a bad start, he seems to fight to the end but just give up on the race.
