English coach replaced for performance. Horsemanship coach, best in the nation without a doubt, resigned for a variety if reasons: personal training business has grown, elderly relatives needing assistance.......still giving lessons to team girls. Positive change for her.

English coach replaced for total failure to produce.

That's a little harsh. The English squad rode for the national title in 2012, falling in a tiebreaker. That wasn't all that long ago. Did they have a rough year last year? Yes. To say the former coach was a 'total failure' is not accurate or fair though.

The original three SEC equestrian schools have completely dominated in English ever since the creation of the VENC. I think 2012 may be the only year one of those three haven't won the title. That's not an easy circle to crack since many of the better English riders are from the East Coast. Hopefully with our new facility more of that talent will come our way.

Yes!! Caroline Cramer, former All American rider from U Tennessee-Martin. She vol coached last year while working on grad degree......a great choice with lots of potential!

Look Out Below.....coaching is tough........you think they wouldn't be after Sumlin if he had two dismal seasons? Only one tie last year, no wins?? Our facilities should help recruiting. Auburn just covered an arena this summer. UGA is outside as well. SC has one tiny covered pen. But the big Eng shows are in the east and Florida. Those gals seem to favor riding for those SEC schools where they can stay on those Eng circuits with ease. And have access to the top trainers in that world.

And I think the Eng squad will find success this year. Cramer has success in the Eng circuits and NCAA. She seems to have a knack for coaching. The strongest riders on our Eng squad are sophs and juniors.

Comparing football and equestrian in that context are like comparing apples and oranges.

Football is the moneymaker and you can't have 'lost' seasons or it destroys your bottom line and ability to fund other sports, like equestrian.

Equestrian, in its much shorter time here, has a much, much higher rate of success than football. I simply don't think a one year hiccup should result in expulsion, especially when you were riding for the title so recently. I feel like its throwing out the baby with the bath water.

That said, I wish the new coach and the team luck going forward. I hope last year was indeed just a hiccup.
