Men have been on an extended trip to Florida. Took down FAU on Thursday, have a meet with Indian River today. Carazo looks like he is the real deal, and the freshmen class is showing flashes of real talent.

Jacob Gonzalez appears ready to make a big leap forward this year. A welcome sight after losing a number of major sprint components.

Bunch of solid swims for the ladies in the rarely used (at least for our women) format of no 100's in the strokes. Nothing live during the meet but final results here: AM UNT UH results

4IM win was actually Sarah Henry as her name was flipped with Nancy Schuchhardt. The UNT pool isn't considered fast by any stretch so 4:13 is moving.

Big meet in Austin on Friday. Their women are swimming and diving well as they typically do in the dual meet season, should be a heckuva match up.

I saw the men about a month back(tu meet) - there's definitely talent there, it just needs to be developed.
Obviously that will take time and effort on both the coaches and the swimmers part.
Time will tell I guess....
Haven't had a chance to see this weekends times, did anything stand out in particular?

On the women, 4:13 for Henry at UNT is moving for this time of year. Excited to see if that continues!

and Halco, you're completely right about tu women over this last weekend. They're not messing around.

The Texas girls are swimming and diving well. I did not expect them to beat either Stanford or Cal. It was clear though that the Stanford and Cal girls are racing tired - Franklin didn't break 50 secs in 100 free. Stanford's Simone Manuel is blazing fast in the 200 free at 1;45 already.

The A&M/Texas dual meet should be a good one. Texas is a bit more race ready since they have already traveled to Michigan, Stanford, and Cal. But they might be a bit tired too.

My guess is that the Aggies will be ready to race after playing around so far. Texas will have one clear advantage - diving.

I just hope for steady improvement. I don't expect to beat anybody that sweeps Cal & Stanford in consecutive days. Looking forward to the invite as that's when we'll know a lot more about what we have.

LOB - what happened to diver Zoe Alaniz? I see she is not on the roster. She was a promising diver.

I stand corrected. Huge win for the ladies today!

Men's recruiting? Can anyone explain why we are so focused on international recruiting? Seems to be plenty of fast swimmers regionally and nationally to put a top caliber team together.

Build it - I think it's just maybe tougher than we all think.

First off - Almost all better recruits in Texas will come running if Eddie Reese calls. Let's not kid ourselves, we're trying to out recruit Eddie, not tu. It's gonna be tough until that changes.

Second - SMU gets to stack academic and athletic aid, so does TCU. Both offer better academics in certain area's and if the kid is bright enough a better financial offer against the swim team's scholarship total.

Third - Texas isn't as deep at swimming as people believe, the top is very quick but below that it isn't a depth hot bed. Building on that - If you're going to carry as many good college teams as Texas has you need to be in a situation where the states that surround you are also great swimming states. (Think VA, NC area. A hotbed, surrounded by other good or great swimming states - you land up with a lot of very good college teams)
Texas has NM (swimming is almost non-existent), OK (average at best) and LA (average to above average)
trying to support LSU, SMU, TCU, tu, A&M - not to mention any number of smaller programs.

Fourth - This one is new, and why I don't think you're seeing as many blue-chip out of state recruits anymore (i.e: Dalton, Gardner, etc). Some big state schools can now offer in-state tuition to athletes if they are a combination of fast enough/smart enough. (Georgia can, I think Florida can. There are others but people remain tight-lipped about who can and can't.) Needless to say, A & M can't do that.

Add all that together and where is the best place you can go to get a few guys that provide a platform to at least look enticing to in-state recruits from a 'current times on roster' perspective? Internationals.
