Both are World Championships (along with some other teams for big summer meets) qualifiers. Off to an excellent start in France, Gastaldello qualifies for Worlds in the 100 fly courtesy of SwimmingWorldMagazine.com:

"The women's 100 butterfly featured a two-woman battle not only for the win, but the privilege of swimming at the world championships. Marie Wattel and Beryl Gastaldello separated from the field early and set up a tight race to the finish. Wattel earned the victory with a 58.35, while Gastaldello who recently competed for Texas A&M University at the NCAA championships in the United States was second with a 58.57. Both earned automatic selection to the world championship team."

Results here: French Nationals Results Paul Marc Schweitzer is also competing.

Canadian Nationals start tomorrow. A crew of Aggies (or future Aggies) in the Psych Sheet. Buscher, Larson, McGregor, McMahon, Miller, and Pickrem for the women. Caroza and Frank for the men.

Interesting that Larson is swimming in Canada's Nationals....

Not surprised at all that Gastaldello continues to swim well.

Sydney Pickrem just dropped a 4:39.26 4IM to win in Canada. Under their World Champs qualifying time as well.

Breeja's 200 breast was unimpressive. I don't think she has figured that race out - or how to train for it.

Not surprised Paige Miller won 50 back. We need someone like her for our medley relays.

Did you notice McMahon swam 400 free? I do not remember her EVER swimming 500 free at A&M. Is she really a more than capable middle distance freestyle swimmer?

Breeja swam her prelims 100 well. But she added time in finals.

McMahon has done a few 500's at A&M, including a 4:44.5 in prelims of the Adamson Invite this year. She is more than capable in that and the 200.

Good win for Miller, looks like she also had a best time in the 100 fly this morning. I have confidence that Bultman and Jamison will find the solution at backstroke, especially with Bratton and Norman already on the roster and the likely improvements they will make into next season.

Breeja already has her spot at World's secured in the 200, I suspect she's just using this as a long course racing/training meet.

Bratton will not be our answer in the 100 or the 50 as long as she continues to train for the 400IM. It could be Norman. Or a flyer could get fast enough to put Gastaldello in backstroke on the relays.

I must have missed McMahon's 500 swims. Those are good times.

Gastaldello qualifies for France for the world championships in five events: 50/100 back, 50/100 fly, 100 free.

IMPRESSIVE.
