No discussion yet?

Would really like to see the track geeks give their play by play.

Aggie women #1 after one day, the men #2. Schedule for Thursday looked heptathlon/decathlon heavy.

I think the Aggies had a solid first which they can build on for the second day.

Two major disappointments from the first day

On the women side Olivia Ekpone may not have fully recovered yet and posted a 23.91 in 200m and at this time she is not in the top 48 times in the west region. She is so talented and it would be so sad for her to end her senior not making the NCAA. She is also projected from the last Track and Field News Form Chart to place 4th in the 200m at NCAA.
It seems now that every year one of our top sprinters get injured and does not recover fully to help the team at NCAA. Remember last year was Ashley Collier and some time before Porsha Lucas got injured too
I wish Ekpone all the best. She still has the 100m

On the men side Devin Jenkins the very talented transfer did not make the finals in the 200m and has not gone under 21,00 seconds yet for the 200 this season. He has a best 20.16 which can potentially win the NCAA. I hope he still makes the West Regional and find his true form.

Great job for Aggie women on day scoring in the hammer and 10,000m and the men in javelin scoring 14 points

Due to all the lack of information from the Aggie T&F program, I have sadly lost a ton of interest in the program. Frustrating.

I have not spent any time computerizing the SEC or NCAA data. I have no computer projections on how the schools or participants will do.

That said, I certainly hope we win. The men should win both the SEC & NCAA Championships.

Trini - - any comments? Trini is our most knowledged track geek Aggie on this Web site. He is an invaluable source of info. Far more so than the athletic department.

I too concur with you MidTnAG
I still try to follow the team and wish them the best
I must say that with the lack of information about the track athletes many of us make statements based on what we see and others say we are negative towards the team but in fact we just don't have information.

I have been reading several articles on Track and Field news and you find so many articles on what is going on with other universities especially Oregon. I have read who left Oregon, who transferred to Oregon, who signed recently with Oregon and who are injured. But you would hardly get anything on the Aggies.
What is there to hide? People leave programs all the time and people transfer to other programs all the time. Haley Crouser (high school javelin standout) left Oregon and have signed with Texas.
We have not seen any information on Sierrra Patrick and Aldrich Bailey and many others. We have Briyhanna Desrossier and Luther Victor now competing unattached in the last few meets. Are they redshirting this year? Both have tremendous potential

I must also say that many of the schools are doing much better in the sprints and are competing with us and in some cases surpassing us.
Look at the performance list, even USC track program has turned around on both men and women teams and they are forced to reckon with especially in the sprint and hurdles which we have been dominating. One a positive note we have some really good field athletes who can help the team.

On paper we have two great teams in our men and women track teams but it depends on if we are fully fit and if we find the form to challenge for a national championship. I really wish we can but we need to get as much people to regional and hope to qualify a lot of potential scorers to NCAA.

All the best to AGS

Its a rough year.

Thinking that you would basically lose Ekpone and Taplin this year during outdoor season championship.

How did the men lose? Did not follow the meet. Saw on SEC Now that the men tied with AR for second. Florida won. WOW!!! Embarrassing.

If you want to know what is going on in the A&M T&F program, good luck.

Its pretty easy to see how the men lost. Florida is really good (as we knew) and we have injuries with 2 out of our top 4 runners.

We had our top PV no height. Our second best runner (Taplin) is hurt and didn't score any points. Are top hurdler (Coleman) is hurt.

I'm really actually quite impressed with how well the men did with losing 15-20 points due to injuries. You add in the PV issue and that's probably close to 25 points left on the table and points that would be taken away from UF.

Don't forget we lost 8 points from Spencer not placing in the Steeple and another 5 with Wells in the 10K. I don't blame Wolfle for the NH especially with the bad weather and wind, I think it was a bad mix. Irvin had trouble with it too. McSwain and our discus throwers were interrupted twice too. But on the bright side, it looks like Wolfle and Wyatt have the chance to score for us at nationals.

NCAA championships are what really counts, so I would be concerned about our placement there.

Not forgetting also that Lathone Collie only made one jump in the triple jump. He foul his first jump
and also pass on the next two jumps. He has jumped 16 plus before and could have scores also. We could have gotten another 4-5 points in the triple jump. Maybe one or two more from Devin Bogert in the Javelin based on seed of 75m plus and only threw 70m plus.

I agreed that the condition must have impacted themany of the throwing competition and pole vault, We may have scored more points on these events. Some people may argue that all athletes had the same
conditions to deal with though and some handled it better than others.

The women javelin we possible could have scoredmore with Jena and Ashtin Zamzow not throwing anywhere near their best. Theyboth threw further in the hepthatalon a day before. However we had a great throw by Kristen Clark over 52m. This means that both Kristen Clark and Maggie
Malone are in the top 12 in the NCAA in the javelin and can potentially score.
Maggie Malone threw 55 plus last year and if she throws anything near that this
year she would score significantly.

Maybe Jennifer Madu should have made the 100m finals and score. Great tun by Aaliyah Brown to beat defending NCAA championship.

Great run bu the 4x100m women in breaking the SEC championship record. That was an extremely fast race with the top four teams under 42.85 seconds with both Florida and Kentucky breaking school records.

Overall I think the women did pretty well considering they are ranked 9th and beat many higher ranked teams. I really hope Olivia could be ready for regional in two weeks. I think she should make
regionals in 100m not sure about the 200m. On a positive note she ran three races at this meet which is a good sign, There are still room for improvement in the 100 and 200m sprinters. We have Aaliyah Brown. Jennifer Madu, Ashton Purvis, Olivia Ekpone, Kamaria Brown who can all score at NCAA if fit and on
top of their game

Not sure on the status of Taplin who is potential scorer at NCAA. I also notice the improvement in Devin Jenkins and ran a 10.34 in the 100m which is the fastest he has run since becoming an Aggie even though
he did not make the finals. I really hope he can improve at regionals and make NCAA and be a potential scorer. He has a 10.16 and 20.16 fro last year

Our top 800m guys ran PB's or close to PB's even though they did not make the finals (147 plus). With some improvement they can spring a surprise at regionals

After today's final day of championship in several regions we should know the top 48 persons in each event by tomorrow. The west region is loaded with A&M, Oregon, USC, Texas etc

Great job at SEC championship 2015. Congrats toall Ags. On to regionals now. All the best Aggies.

Olivia is safe in the 100, ranked around 30th in the West. She's like 60th in the 200 and I don't see 12 people dropping out.

Bub. It was embarrassing. When the #1 team loses a conference meet by 35 points, to me that is embarrassing. Maybe is just so-so or unfortunate to you, but to me the #1 Team loosing by 35 points is embarrassing.

So how much were they supposed to win by?

My guess is that if you looked at the marks coming into the meet and subtracted Taplin, A&M likely performed where they were meant to.

Florida is deeper at a conference meet than they are at the national meet and formchart would probably have A&M/UF close to a toss up at the national championships.

Actually, the more I think about it, Florida was probably the favorites for the SEC championship even when A&M had Taplin.

So your "embarrassment" is likely due to ignorance of the situation going in. Perhaps you should point out specifics in your embarrassment since other than Jenkins not performing all year and the PV no height, I'd say we performed just about as well as I'd expect.

Even considering all the injuries, I am not stunned we lost. But as pointed out, we mostly underperformed. This is our conference meet. This is the only meet a person can earn the title of All SEC performer. This is a meet where adrenaline is ramped.

When we were in a much worse conference we would place 2nd/3rd only to win the national title.

Pat Henry indicated we underperformed on th men side
The words of Pat Henry after the SEC championship

"I'm pleased with the efforts of the vast majority of thegroup," said Texas A&M head coach Pat Henry. "We left a lot of points on the table, especially on the men's side. I think the ladies performed at a
pretty high level. Once again to be second in the Southeastern conference is a huge accomplishments for both of these groups."

I just looked at the PAC 12 championship results. Oregon won the Championship and Jenna Prandini (10.92 in 100m and 22.52 in 200m and 6.50 in long jump) did not even compete.
Some of the better results are
Jasmine Todd 11.12in 100m and 22.89 in 200m, 6.31m in long jump and 13.10 in the triple jump. She and Jennna Prandini can score big points. Revyn Rogers 201.62 in 800m. Sasha Wallace 13.00 in 100m hurdles. Britaany Man 17.24m in Shot put. Lauren Crockett 1.82m in high jump

USC women finished second. USC had six sprinters in the 100m women finals. Seven women in the 200m
finals. 4 women in the 400m finals. 3 in the 100m hurdles finals with the top finish. The top two finishers in the 400m finals. Many of these athletes have better times than ours.

Look out for USC and Oregon at NCAA

Our sprint women really need to improve to be a force toreckon with at NCAA. Outside Kamaria Brown and Shamier Little, the others have not done well individually. Yes we done well in relays but Jennifer Madu and
Ashton Purvis have to improve to make NCAA. Regionals will be very competitive with many schools now doing very well in sprints and hurdles.

Hope we are peaking at the right time

Fwiw, the order of finish may have been the difference in the league's all sports trophy.

Success at conference meets has always been a lower priority than at the National Championships with Coach Henry. And "embarrassing" is not the word I would ever use. Just because we have a great set of coaches, talented and hard working athletes, and the drive to be the best...it does not guarantee total dominance.

Olivia looks like she may end up qualifying for the 200. She is ranked 69 in the region and there are 29 scratches listed among the competitors in front of her.
