First ever post in 'Other Sports'...

Has there ever been any discussion on a Lacrosse team at A&M? Sponsored or Club?

Thanks! I wish it would get more of a push for a Varsity Sport...it's actually quite fun to watch. College Football will always be the best in my mind, but I like watching lacrosse.

As more and more concern grows with concussions in football, parents are having kids play other sports.

Lacrosse is a growing sport in DFW. Our private school just added it for HS and MS.

It is a few years behind Soccer, IMO, in terms of appeal, but I think in the Metroplex it will be a pretty attractive sport.

I played lacrosse out east in college & used to help a little with the Sienna Plantation youth leagues in Houston. From what I have seen it has started to really take off in the Houston area. I am sure it is a matter of time until it is recognized as a varsity sport for a lot of the high schools.

I grew up playing baseball and still love baseball but when I got to HS (went to HS in MN) I had to choose to play either baseball or lacrosse. Our baseball coach absolutely hated how many kids lacrosse was stealing from them especially in the youth leagues. While working with the Sienna kids I gave private lessons and half of the kids were perfectly good baseball players but saw kids running up and down a field throwing a ball around & hitting each other & have made the switch.

I was an intense hockey, football, & baseball player my entire life & have to admit that lacrosse is an extremely fun game to play. I think more people would enjoy it if they took the time to learn it & appreciate it but being a relatively new sport & the often bro culture that goes along with it sometimes it still gets a bad rep. I think it'll only continue to grow & more and more kids will continue to play.

From a little kids perspective, running up and down the field whipping a ball around and hitting each other looks a lot more fun than sitting in center field standing still.

Went to one of our home LAX games Team was good but lacked a little size. Unstoppable offense castrated by a unphysical defense....

UF has had a women's lacrosse team for about 6 years. It's pretty easy to be competitive, not that many schools play it, we have made it to at least the round of 16 every year after our inaugural year, and made the final 4 in year three.
It's also good association, even though the SEC doesn't have a league for it (it's just us and Vandy), many of the participating schools are really good academically, so it's good exposure. The last conference we were in had us, Ohio State, Northwestern, Johns Hopkins, Vandy and Penn State. That disolved and now we are with the big east.

You are quite a bit closer to other lacrosse schools than we are. The closest schools to us is Vandy which is over 750 miles away. The next are Louisville, Denver and Florida which are all over 900 miles away.

There would need to be a group of schools near us that were all in talks of adding it in a short period of time.

I doubt lacrosse ever becomes a varsity sport here (especially mens thanks to title 9). If we add a sport, next in line would be womens gymnastics imo. If we were to add a mens sport (not likely in the near future), id think it would be soccer.

I came from Colorado and am playing with the Corps team this year. Hoping to see if I can move to the MCLAA team next year depending on my situation. That being said, A&M is in MCLA D1 and does pretty well in our region.

Word on the street is that DFW is going to get a MLL team in the next few years.

We've been working on that for the last few years but we're pretty far away from getting a team here in Texas. Especially since Atlanta just got a team. That being said, DFW is the best option considering the hockey following (lacrosse, specifically box, tends to have a similar following). Lacrosse is a staple here in Dallas and the competition is probably the best in Texas, but sadly we're a few years away from a MLL/NLL team :/
