Heard a rumor that we are getting the Tech head coach. Has anyone heard anything along those lines?

Interesting! I heard Steve Denton was going to be running both programs.

I think the tennis coach at TCJC is looking to move up. Maybe even a local high school coach would be a steal for Hyman. Money is no object as long as Hyman doesn't have to pay more than $50,000.00 a year for a coach that played at least 2 years of high school tennis!

My expectations are definitely managed! Unbelievable that Hyman could not hold onto Joffe!

A couple of years back there was a discussion on this board about possible replacements for Joffe when and if he ever left. The consensus at the time was that he would return to California at some point. I got blasted when I suggested that Todd Petty from tech would be a solid replacement. It really sucks to lose Joffe to tu and whoever comes in will have big shoes to fill for sure! But other than promoting Weaver, I still maintain that Petty will be a good hire. He has taken a much different path to where he is compared to most D1 Head coaches, but you can't argue the success he has had at tech.

He has had one trip to the sweet 16, and has finished 30 or higher twice. Not great results, but definitely getting better.

Just look at the tech program before and after he got there.

I get that they improved. But knowing Coach Groce, their expectations weren't exactly high. She had to stay in the top 75 to keep her gig. She had no motivation to do any more than the minimum. Petty is a little more driven by success than she was.

My point is, his results there weren't stellar. He didn't make them a powerhouse. They made the tournament once.

That being said, I really thought he would go hard for this job.

The mystery candidate is Rodney Harmen from Georgia Tech, supposedly that is who Denton recommended to Hyman.

How does the tech coach's record at tech compare to joffe's stops prior to A&M?

Harmon was the mystery candidate when Joffe was hired. Heard he was horrible in the interview. I doubt he got another shot at it.

Anyone know if any recruits that were signed are still coming in this season? I would assume that nobody is coming now with Joffe leaving.

Recruiting in tennis can be pretty fluid. I would expect the new hire to pick up some transfers and/or some foreign players for the spring season.
