I was about to post about Lauryn. She's finished 2nd and 3rd at the 5A XC meet the past couple of years and turned a time better than girls like Madie Boreman (CU), Maddy Reed (Ark), Payton Brown (Ark), Ashton Endsley, and Abby Guidry (tu).

Barrientos is a solid signing but don't read anything in to times at state cross country meet. The rapid deterioration of the course made times irrelevant.

Jace Comick(sprints) commits to A&M. Solid depth guy. I think he projects best as a 2/4 guy rather than a 1/2 guy.

PB:
200M 21.31
100M 10.87
60M 6.99

Aggie sign 11 athletes in the early signing period.
All have been discussed in this blog except Will Williams who is an exception long jump recruit.
He will enroll as a sophomore in January.
He has a a PB of 8.03m in the long jump but has jumped 8.12m in a exhibition last summer. Hope he can get better in the Triple Jump too
He can be a immediate scorer for the Aggies both indoors and outdoors together with the twins (Lathone and Latario) in the triple jump

Very interesting article on Ashtin Zamzow on why she left A&M and broke the family Aggie tradition.

"They were great and I respected them, but I felt like I could get more out of practice than what I was getting," Zamzow says. "It just didn't feel right."
Her Aggie family was not happy about her decision. Initially, her parents thought she hadn't given A&M enough of a chance, and dinner-table arguments ensued.
"They were like, 'I'm cutting you off, financially,'" Zamzow says. "Long story short, they weren't happy with it."

Looking back now at her younger days as a diehard A&M fan, she thinks, "Dang, they really did brainwash us."

If she was getting enough out of practice, maybe she should have talked to the coaches about it.

Ms Zamzow scored 5200 points in the big 12 championships for 4th place. In the SEC, that score might be good for 8th.

She scored 5400 last year in SEC and was better in all events but one. Perhaps she was getting exactly what she needed and didn't recognize it. But certainly a great recruiting comparison.

Ashtin scored 5829 at Texas Relays but injured her back throwing javelin. She has been injured the rest of the season and just competed at conference to help her team win. Don't know if she will be able to compete at nationals due to her injuries. She is as tough as her parents were.

Add to the list Landon Malouf, a hurdler (14.17) out of St Thomas HS in Houston. The 6'3", 190 lb senior has also high jumped 6-4, long jumped 21-11 and thrown the shot over 43'. Would imagine the coaches have him in mind for the multi's.

We should start recruiting the 12 year old girl from Minnesota who ran a 10:28 2-mile last month. I haven't paid much attention to track recruiting but seeing several high school kids at the Olympic Trials made me check out this thread. Each of our teams just had more scholarship money open up with Donovan and Shamier leaving.

Kind of. I just noticed the incredible time the girl (she's in the 7th grade) had in the 2 mile run at the New Balance Nationals in North Carolina. I wouldn't be surprised if college coaches were there showing the school colors. In sports like soccer and softball it seems like most girls commit during their sophomore years of high school.

IMO when recruiting female distance runners college programs probably use (or should use) the 'wait and see how things develop.'

I do not want to take away the kudos to the athlete who ran a nice time for a twelve year old. It is great to be young and fit and talented and to work hard to reach whatever goals you have set. All wonderful things for all of us.

Any long shot chances at Sydney McLaughlin next year? Her first season would be at the new track (sell, sell, sell).
