Thought I would start a thread for Volleyball in the NCAA Tournament.
The team has done an amazing job in getting a top 16 seed and avoiding Austin. But now its time to take advantage of this and get to Des Moines.
Has there ever been a bigger discrepancy between the coaches poll and RPI with Hawaii? The coaches ranked them 7 and their RPI is 26. Maybe it's us with our ranking of 15 and a RPI of 6.

Their RPI is a by product of two things....first and most important the lack of quality teams in the Big West THIS season. They have had a couple of up years by the mid level teams but other than maybe Long Beach State nothing even close to NCAA caliber and this season I wouldn't add them to the mix either

Secondly, the schedule three tourneys all in Hawaii to begin the season and while they bring is some decent teams they don't travel on the road to may a match against anyone good. This hurts their RPI. I would put the Hawaii team in the top 10 in the nation probably around 8 and us somewhere around 12. Add in home court advantage and this could be interesting and I would favor us with the way we are playing currently. PABLO I think has this match as a near pickem game with us at home.

That said I got a chance to see some of the teams practice in open session briefly yesterday. TCU vs. Hawaii based upon just the practice alone. TCU wins... even if Nikki Taylor from Hawaii on the RS goes off.

So the final 4 is a Big 10 Big 12 contest after KU won at #1 seed USC.

Well we were on the bad end of the Texas bias on Saturday.
Playing Texas in Austin in The elite 8, Down 7-6 in the fifth, we had a kill that was inside the line by a foot and a half, linesman called it out from 5-10 feet away. Chair didn't overturn it and we lost 17-15.

Definite bad call but one point over 5 sets does not make a match.

It was a bad call but regardless you fought out of the hole and actually had a lead late with a chance to win. A commit block by Mirta on the middle and missed serve by Recek ruined a great comeback. Bad calls happen, and everyone in the rally scoring era is multiplied because instead of 7-7 you are down 6-8. You got lucky, if you call it that, that it happened at the change over and got a media to try to stop the bleeding.

Many people post on VB message boards that we would have won if not for that call. Incorrect. The match would have taken a different turn based upon the rotations and situations.

I for one wanted a Florida win also just to simply say that TAMU was 2-1 against the final four this year...still 1-0 but while a very bad call you had time to recover, did, then lost.

It was a GREAT match albeit with some controversy. I know the LJ, I bet he feels like crap and is still sick about it

In fairness I didn't say it cost us the match.
My point was that for years I have read her that Texas magically gets phantom calls at crucial points. And lo and behold, the first time in a while where we play them in Austin with something important on the line, we get an inexplicably bad call, with no conference or overrule against us 6-7 in the fifth.
Might have been an honest mistake, but it doesn't exactly make me discount the stories I read around here.
That was all.
