With the track season well underway the Ags are doing quite well. Their men are ranked #1 by the USTFCCCA and the women are in slot #5. Both groups have great "dual meet" teams and the men are currently ranked number one in the nation.Track and Field News recently posted their own championship predictions and have the Aggie men finishing 6 points behind defending champions Oregon, while the women are projected to finish in 6th place (38 points) behind winner Arkansas (53 points).
Projected scorers for the men are: Devin Jenkins, 200 (6th); Fred Kerley, 400 (3rd); Donovan Brazier, 800 (5th); Robert grant, 400 hurdles (6th); 4X100 (3rd); 4X400 (4th); Audie Wyatt, pole vault (3rd); Will Williams, long jump (7th); Latario Collie, triple jump (1st); Loannis Kyriazis, javelin (2nd)
Scoring for the women are Jennifer Madu, 100 (4th); Analiyah Brown, 200 (7th); Shamier Little, 400 hurdles (1st); 4X1, (6th); Shelbi Vaughn, discus (1st), Maggie Malone, javelin (2nd).
I would include Lindon Victor as a scorer in the decathlon (he had a tremendous first day at Mt Sac but fouled 3 times in the discus and dropped out)...he is listed as an entry at this weekend's Kansas Relays where I think he may put up a great score. I would also include Hector Hernandez in the 800 as he ripped a 1:46.29 school record this past saturday.
The team is relatively young and I think not having a track to host meets is really hurting them. They can only travel so many to away meets and some of the younger kids are not getting the experience that is so vital to freshman performers. The kids and coaches deserve a first rate home facility and I hope this is the year that we'll hear some good news.
Question...anyone know why Nathan Hite (scored in the SEC indoors mults) has not competed more outdoors, and I assume that frosh 800 runner Bryce Deadmon is redshirting (hasn't competed indoors or out).
