This is fantastic news. They're expecting close to 300k on race day. I'll be happily watching from the Northpoint Crossing pool with a brew in hand.

Hinchcliffe P1. Nice recovery from a guy who almost died there last year.
And for all the urinating and moaning the Honda guys have been doing I'd have to say they represented pretty well.

Got wistful about the old days watching the replay of the 1979 race on ESPN Classic this morning. Big-time talent on the track and even in the booth with Sir Jackie and the legendary Jim McKay on the mic.

The 1981 race was on this morning. Reminded me of how terrifying methanol fires are. Seeing one of Rick Mears' crewmen trying to let people know he was on fire is still disturbing.

My brother and I are headed to the race. Any tips for first timers?

My wife and I went to the 1982 race when Gordon Johncock beat Rick Mears by a tenth of a second. We scalped two tickets on the inside bleachers, about 100 yards from the finish line. As I recall we paid $50 for those tickets...and thought we'd paid a King's ransom.

Couple of memories...the smell of burnt alcohol reminded me of 8th grade Chemistry class. And those cars went so fast you couldn't follow them or else you'd get a headache (or worse). Regardless, it was a blast.

Turbocharged, 1,000 HP, single wing cars.
I kinda wish they'd get rid of the cascade elements and some of the downforce. Let them stick their noses underneath the other guys gear box without the front end washing away.
Mears was lucky he wasn't burned alive. Those no flame fires were frightening.

Yeah, the fuel odor at Indycar races will make you dizzy.

I appreciate the chess match win in one regard, but it sure was anticlimactic.

"will he run out of gas or win the race?"

For the first time in 10 years, the Indy 500 drew a higher TV rating than the Coke 600. Indy 500 - 4.1, Coke 600 - 3.8. It continues a trend of the Indy 500 gaining in ratings while NASCAR is declining.
