The Ags played a great 3 games. We really had the chance to take at LEAST a game from them. We were just one or two ref calls away. There was a place in each game where our serve-receive just went into a funk. And then our serves were long.
There weren't very many ags there, only a couple of parents. Hats off to the three Aggie students who drove the whole way up there! My husband and I were on the 3rd row, almost right behind the pole. The students were stuck up in the upper level. It was fun trying to coordinate yells from a distance. We certainly got a few looks, even from the USC bench after yelling Beat the Hell. One of the funny things is that they would play the War Hymn about once per game. They would start the darn thing with @ 15 seconds to go during a timeout. So, there we were, still sawing varsity's horns off in the middle of the game. They didn't play anyone else's fight song...I think they were doing it for entertainment value...just to watch us...but that's ok. By the third game, the Huskers would join in by clapping to the beat.
The Nebraska/UCLA game was interesting. Nebraska came out and tore up UCLA in the first game. UCLA fought back in the 2nd game. After half-time, Nebraska couldn't do anything right...many hitting errors, they looked really tired.
I really thought USC would take care of business within 3, however, that was not the case. USC was not hitting with force like they typically do. UCLA was digging everything...some of it had to be pure luck. The 2nd game was a little closer, with USC eeking it out. The 30th point came as the ball went through many rallies....awesome defense, you could literally hear the audience ooh and ah at the outstanding performance on the floor. When it ended, everyone rose to their feet clapping for the amazing play. After half-time, USC came out and played like themselves, taking total control. UCLA had an injury in the 2nd game that really took the wind out of their sail, their right side freshman, can't think of her name, #11) rolled her ankle and was out for the match. In the 4th game, I think the score was 12-0 before UCLA finally scored their 1st point. They didn't give up, but USC was in control and won the match. Chrissie Zartman is a serious Libero...flinging her body around like she's still playing on the sand. UCLA's setter could do interesting things with the ball.
Even though things didn't work out in our favor, we had a good time in Lincoln and Omaha. It was a winter wonderland with snow on the ground and a few flurries on Friday night.
Anyone coming to Dallas for the AVCA or Final Four? There are plenty of tickets available in case anyone is interested in coming up here last minute.
