Can they suspend Denton instead?

Probably should be suspended for the Tech match and the ITAs if the allegation is true.

Watching that video it looks like a simple reaction to the Ohio St. player playing to the crowd and basically taunting our guy. Of course, all of us are able to eat our pride when being taunted. Not really much I'd do than treat it as a learning experience if he is sitting today and next time anyone is goading you tell him you will see him again in the NCAA's and future when it matters a lot more.

Who knows the real reason why he is sitting this one out, could he just be traveling to a pro tournament this week?

I'm hearing that the suspension came from above coaches. Admin making him sit.

Arthur is out for singles, not looking good for a win.

Glad you aren't leading this team. What a terrible example that would be, letting him get away with it. He should sit for first round of indoors too. Send a message.

Ags are currently up 3-2 against tt. Kypson and Arthur are out of the singles lineup. Aguilar just forced a 3rd on court 3 and Lam is trying to force a 3rd set on court 6.

Match tied at 3. Lam is tied 3-3 in 3rd set in match that will decide it.

What character would you be teaching him by sitting him one match (after a disgusting show of sportsmanship) and then telling him to talk trash to his opponents from now on? He's an immature 18 year old who is being treated like a king. Send him a message that how he acted isn't appropriate and it isn't going to be accepted at A&M.

Telling an opponent you "will see him again in the NCAA's and future when it matters a lot more" is talking trash to a guy when he is trying to show you up after a win at the net? Come on, you can do better than that. Do you need help with what talking trash sounds like?

Kevin Lam wins the 3rd set for the Aggies 6-4 to take the match over Texas Tech 4-3. A very nice win for the Ags under adverse circumstances!

This story has made its way all the way to MSN.com and ESPN Not a good look for the program. If he is not suspended for all of indoors after the media it has gotten, there is something terribly wrong

He apologized after basically every news organization reported on it so yes he made an apology. An apology that means nothing.

What are the odds he made the trip to Seattle? I'd say they're pretty high although I think the coaches catch a lot of heat if he's there.

I think Denton should be suspended.

I'm not making any excuses for the kid and this spitting situation. It was cringe worthy to watch especially when the kid is wearing maroon and white! However, I think it's silly to over generalize this one incident and blame it on the "culture" of this program and coaching staff. Playing devils advocate, this is an 18 year old kid who's had an incredible career as a junior and has been tabbed as "the next big thing in American tennis". He's been on campus for about a month and finds himself playing line 1 against a guy he has history with in a VERY hostile atmosphere that nothing can truly prepare him for! The atmosphere and taunting that is allowed by the NCAA to promote attendance is a thread for another day... Anyway, when it's all said and done he loses the match on a let/ace and the rest is history. I couldn't care less if he is truly sorry or if his apology is sincere or not. Actions speak louder than words and I hope this KID learns a lot from this incident and has an awesome season and career.

Based on another forum I read, Kypson has a very spotty history with his on court behavior.

And he was the one that had the bad attitude throughout this match. This is coming from neutral observers and just people that follow junior tennis closely.

Kid needs to fix it. Embarrassing for himself.

Denton had a bad temper as a player as well. There is a great book by Bill Scanlon that includes an anecdote about Denton chasing someone off the court into the locker room during a pro tournament & fighting him there. Of course that someone was John McEnroe & he probably deserved it, but it's easy to see how a coach that beat the **** out of a player during a match would condone this type of behavior. For the record, I think the John McEnroe story is good bull, but my point is we are not talking about a strict disciplinarian here.

It's also probably hard to control a one and done guy who is already coming in with a bad attitude and inflated self-worth. Especially when you want to win desperately and are so close to getting over that hump like the Aggie men are. What are you going to do, kick him off team? He's off the team and on the tour in a couple of months anyway.
