Today's match with Rice had its ups and downs like any other match. We just missed the last uptick. The biggest surprise was the #1 doubles letting a 5-0 lead slip through our hands. Someone may well correct me but if memory serves me correctly we were up 5-4, with the score 15-40 (Ags up) when a ball bounced on the court playable and then bounced on the shed sitting area making the ball unplayable for Dominica. The officials in TexAg land can square me away on why the shed isn't considered interference since Domi DID have the ability to play the shot had the obstacle not been there. Rice gets the point wins the game and moves on to finish the match. To be honest after the lead built so quickly I thought the ladies had the situation well in hand. Oh well, so much for predictions.
The most bright spot of the match was Riley McQuaid. Her 4 star rating came ringing true as she dominated her opponent in the 2nd and 3rd sets. She also put some adversity aside quickly as the refs were making some absolutely HORRIBLE calls, all against the Ags. She worked through her opponents shrinking of the courts and the ref allowing her to do so with sheer power and absolutely perfect shot placements . Throwing in some really well placed Aces along the way.
VanSant, Jordan, and even Mark all three made their feelings known to the respective refs (multiple bad calls on multiple courts). Give the Owls credit they waited until the most critical turning points of each set to make their move and one ref was heard telling Jordan, "I don't have the authority to overturn that call." The only reason why was because of momentary selective blindness.
All things considered a tough match to walk away from with a L, but hopefully the ladies skin will grow a little thicker because of it and their focus will become a little more finely tuned.
