Bigfoot: I appreciate the tenor of your last post. As a fan of both programs, I have noticed that some fans seem to favor one or the other in an almost exclusive manner. There is no question that Coach Cass has brought a lot of excitement to the mens program. I have always felt, however, that the attention and success of the men should be a benefit to the womens program. In fact I think it is working that way, and the women are continuing to make great strides. I believe we are now ranked at @ 17 in the polls, and we should have a real shot at the conference championship again this year. The fact that Coach Cass is on a number of important committees (both NCAA and University) only helps the tennis program. The new facilities enabled us the get the NCAA Chamionship two years ago, and as you have been involved with program I am sure you know that many people had a role in our successful bid. Without the active support of Wally and now Bill we would have had no shot at landing the tournament. Times are changing in regard to the location of the tournament and our timing and facility matched up very well with what was going on inside the NCAA. I believe, however, that everyone involved in the process will acknowledge that Coach Cass was the catalyst to get it done two years ago and again this year in securing the 05 tournament. Generally speaking when things go well it is a lot of people working together that make it happen. Both of our programs have dedicated coaches, players, fans and financial supporters. It really takes all of these groups to make it work the way we know it can. Lets have a great year of Aggie tennis.

I agree that we favor one program or the other. I will take away all the suspense and tell you that I favor the womens program, but not only for the reason of being close to the girls and coach K. they just seem so much nicer and easier to approach than the guys. if you look at shuon or cody hubbel or DC or skube, they were all super nice guys, and I cant say that enough. I knew hubbel from high school, but even when I saw him a month or two ago, it was like he wasnt any different than anytime before. thats what I like about the girls. if you see them around campus or around town or something, and they know you, they will talk with you, and be friendly. I dont see all of the guys doing that all the time. another reason is because they dont get as much publicity as the guys do (see my post about the batt being retarded and just a LITTLE biased). the women seem more like underdogs, partly because the dominance of texas in the conference. until last year, when we beat texas twice, we had only won against them a handful of times, with maybe one or two coming in austin, including the 2001 win over there. so to beat them twice in a year and win conference was quite a big deal. another reason I am more inclined to go for the girls is that they are often overshadowed by the mens team, unfortunately. true, the men deserve their props, and I will give them theirs in due time, but the women deserve some too, and its seldom that they get theirs. thats what I dont understand is that basically the women had a better year in the conference than the men, but no one heard anything of it. no one hardly comes out to the womens matches (unless Im mistaken and it has picked up this spring). I just never understood that. why wouldnt you want to come watch 6 or 7 beautiful girls play a great sport? I know I go watch when I can! well I had to be there to string, but there are still perks of the job.

so thats why I favor the women over the mens team. why dont more people support the womens team? why cant the women pull in 1500 for a match? those are the million dollar questions that may never be answered. will that stuff ever change? probably not. but thats something we live with, and the true fans will still be out there.

J- yeah SA is alright, except that is so freakin cold here right now. the internship is pretty good, we dont do a whole lot, mainly because my supervisor is never here. but it will all pay off when the final four gets here in april and Im basically living at the dome. I will be sure to call lauren and let her know to tell you when I meet coach K and Roy Williams and the others. I miss BCS a lot and not getting to see any tennis sucks, but I should be back for regionals, assuming we host. maybe we will get a double host again, that would be nice. anyways, take care, catch you later. tell lauren to tell the girls I said hi, and tell nicki to email me back!

Tyson-

Glad to hear you are doing well. IT sounds like you got a nice set up down there, big profile and all. I hope it works out well for ya, and I am sure Ill see you at some match somewhere along the way!

aggie11- looks like we all realized we were aggies, and no one has problems anymore... isnt that a good feeling?

bigmouth10s. If you were that knowledgable, why dont you volunteer as a coach as well. You start dogging the men, and if they win, you will prolly be the first one to jump on the bandwagon and say, im part of it. Be a fan just like all of us. I played 11 years of tennis too, but i cant even hang for 1 set with the worst player on this team. My advise toy you is D3 tennis is way different that what you think you know about D1.

proaggs- I never said I could play for the team, and no, I wont be the one jumping on the bandwagon with you when they do good. if you didnt read my post, I AM A WOMENS TEAM FAN. I thought I made that clear. I know that D3 is way different than D1, Ive seen them both and played against some D1 guys and got my butt handed to me, and thats fine. show me where I said that I could hang with them and I will shutup. until then, you can shut it because youre assuming things. where did you get any of that anyways? Dont you think I would know there is a difference in the levels of tennis? again, tell me where I said I was as good as the mens team, and I will shutup. thanks and Gig em, and chill out a little bit....

Bigfoot: I have a couple of other brief observations. You stated that you had a great relationship with Cody, Dumitru, Shoun, Jarin, etc. from a few years back. It may be that you were closer to the everyday part of the program at that point, and simply got to know those guys better than you do Lester, Ante, Khalid, Bryan, John, etc. from this years group. Having known all of these kids very well during the last five years or so, they are all fine people and very appreciative of the support that they receive from our students and fans.

I had one other observation in terms of production. When the Shuon Madden group were juniors and seniors, we had an excellent team. We recruited some excellent players over the next couple of years, including Ryan Newport, Stephen Moros, Tres Davis, and Nathan Price. The fact that only Ryan developed into a major contributor over the long haul definitely set us back in many respects. I thought that the coaching job that our guys did last year with the lack of depth may have been the best I had seen. Each team is certainly different in terms of temperment, ability, and intangibles. I believe that this group we have this year and next are certainly capable of being very, very good. Time will tell, but I have high hopes for great success.

raven - can I ask your name?

I think that the other guys were more personable to the everyday fan than the guys are now. the guys now seem cockier to me than the guys of old that got this program to where it is today. I will agree that losing moros might have set us back, but tres was a problem from the start, and so was his dad, who told cass that if he tres didnt play #1 the next year (tres' soph year), that he would leave. second, nick wasnt a team player, and that showed when the ags won big 12 at baylor, when during the last match, nick was off talking to some girl from texas, not supporting the team, and shuon about ripped his head off (which was quite amusing, I might add). speaking of moros, did he ever really play here? I dont remember him playing any, or at least not a lot, and where did he go? tres proved that he got in way over his head when he went pro, because Im pretty sure he isnt making a living on the satellite and futures tour. the group of young guys we have now could be good, and true, time will tell. how far will they take us? and how much will they develop over the next 2-3 years? we have one of the strongest #1 doubles teams in the nation, two strong players at 1 and 2, and some young guys (rolle, brett, yevgeny, wooten) that could make an impact much like shuon and cody and DC and skube made. I think we should all come to agreement that even though we have a good team, there is still a LONG way to go before we reach the pinnacle of college tennis. there are way too many factors that come into play for us to look too far ahead as to what these guys could acheieve.

Bigfoot: email me at blewis@tca.net.

Tres is doing fine, playing some (after a bout with injuries) and I believe he has a business that is going pretty well. I was all too familiar with the issues surrounding his season at A&M, but the fact remains that a lot of time and effort, hopes and dreams, went into his recruitment, and at the end of the day it all adds up to what might have been. Stephen went to North Carolina, and I lost track of him from there. Nate is at Arkansas, and has had a very successful career, playing mainly at one or two. He probably would not have been that high at A & M, but he clearly could have helped in a lot of areas. Recruiting is a hit or miss kind of deal. We spend literally years working on some kids, and then an Ante falls into your lap with little forwarning of the fact that he wants to come or how good he actually is. Time will tell with our new batch of young guns, but things look very promising.

ps. I certainly remember the Waco incident that you mentioned. Shuon certainly has the passion for the game and for what he expects from those around him.

What's up Stew.

Can't believe you are dogging the men being overhyped so much. They have done more than the women the last several years, so yes they get more attention.

I think your friendship w/ the women and dislike of Cass' personality has gotten in the way of you having an unbiased opinion on the teams.

I don't believe the men have peaked. We keep reloading and will break thru soon. I am very appreciated compared to where we were at the end of the Kent days.

I hope no one here is against either team, both are excelling in thier own right. We all hope for the men to win it all this year and next. It is possible, and they will. And props to the women again for shutting out UTSA and Iowa State both 7-0. Thats a good way to start BIG XII play!

Goodluck to the men tomorrow!

sully- thanks for the comments, and tell the guys that I am still pulling for them, I just dont understand sometimes how the rankings go. I know of a few guys that didnt like cass and didnt think he was a "players coach", but that may not be the case now with the new guys. I didnt get on here really to dog anyone, or at least that wasnt my first purpose, so if I have offended them, I didnt mean to.

I know that the guys work hard. I cant imagine working that hard, and I respect them for that. I know how hard I worked when I played in college, and this is at a totally different level. that fact that I am not a cass fan does not exactly mean that I wouldnt cheer for the ags or cheer when they lose or anything. Im a tennis fan, first and foremost, and that stands.

cooter- I am thinking of one possibility of who you could be. I wasnt in your group was I? and who is Buro??

I want to warn everyone on here to not voice your opinions about sports anymore on this site. The reason is because if you do, you are likely to get a phone call much like the one I received today from Coach Tim Cass of the Texas A&M Men's team. He proceeded to gripe me out for what I post on here. Last time I checked, this is a public forum that people post their opinions on. Therefore, I can post what I want, and should not have to worry about Coach Cass or anyone else calling you up on your weekend to tell you what they think of your opinions.

I think that it is sad that it has come to this. Since when should a coach be reading this, much less calling the people posting? So it is my advice to not let anyone know your phone number that you dont trust, because it could get to the wrong hands. Either that or dont post here anymore, because otherwise you might get a phone call. I got singled out because I mentioned my name, a few people decided to let coach cass know, and then tell him what I said, or he read it himself, whatever the case might be. Also, since he knows me, he decides to call me. Coach Cass showed me his true character today.

Gig 'em and happy posting!

I agree with BigFoot a coach of major divison I team shouldn't be worried about what is said on some message board..Last time I checked this is America..He should be worrying about doing his job and why they lost to TCU with the players they have there is no excuse..If he has a problem he can call me too..Pathetic.

oh Im not crying about it txag. I think its hillarious that he pays attention to this forum and that he called me about it. thats all I was talking about. It is a public forum, you are right, which means I can voice my opinions and you can voice yours. thats how this thing works. If a coach wants to call someone out, he should call them all out, not just single one person out. thats what was wrong with it. I was dying laughing when I got off the phone because he took the time to call a pee-on like me and gripe me out. you know you would think it was pretty entertaining too...

This stuff is so entertaining that I had to read it again. The AgTenGod doen't read the forum over the last several days and you guys manage to cause such a stir that Cass calls you out literally? The AgTenGod will have to resort to not leaving new posters unattended for extended periods of time. Wow, you managed to attack the coach's character, he keeps winning, the fans keep coming, and he learns what's been said to the point that he called you? Sounds like a good example of someone that has a good handle on his surging program and someone who as some good lurkers that keep an eye on the internet.

Someone should send this topic to Hollywood. I thought it was highly entertaining!

Good luck to the guys in La Jolla as they break from dual matches this weekend. Sounds like a good trip for them.

Next topic, please.
