I agree that we favor one program or the other. I will take away all the suspense and tell you that I favor the womens program, but not only for the reason of being close to the girls and coach K. they just seem so much nicer and easier to approach than the guys. if you look at shuon or cody hubbel or DC or skube, they were all super nice guys, and I cant say that enough. I knew hubbel from high school, but even when I saw him a month or two ago, it was like he wasnt any different than anytime before. thats what I like about the girls. if you see them around campus or around town or something, and they know you, they will talk with you, and be friendly. I dont see all of the guys doing that all the time. another reason is because they dont get as much publicity as the guys do (see my post about the batt being retarded and just a LITTLE biased). the women seem more like underdogs, partly because the dominance of texas in the conference. until last year, when we beat texas twice, we had only won against them a handful of times, with maybe one or two coming in austin, including the 2001 win over there. so to beat them twice in a year and win conference was quite a big deal. another reason I am more inclined to go for the girls is that they are often overshadowed by the mens team, unfortunately. true, the men deserve their props, and I will give them theirs in due time, but the women deserve some too, and its seldom that they get theirs. thats what I dont understand is that basically the women had a better year in the conference than the men, but no one heard anything of it. no one hardly comes out to the womens matches (unless Im mistaken and it has picked up this spring). I just never understood that. why wouldnt you want to come watch 6 or 7 beautiful girls play a great sport? I know I go watch when I can! well I had to be there to string, but there are still perks of the job.
so thats why I favor the women over the mens team. why dont more people support the womens team? why cant the women pull in 1500 for a match? those are the million dollar questions that may never be answered. will that stuff ever change? probably not. but thats something we live with, and the true fans will still be out there.
J- yeah SA is alright, except that is so freakin cold here right now. the internship is pretty good, we dont do a whole lot, mainly because my supervisor is never here. but it will all pay off when the final four gets here in april and Im basically living at the dome. I will be sure to call lauren and let her know to tell you when I meet coach K and Roy Williams and the others. I miss BCS a lot and not getting to see any tennis sucks, but I should be back for regionals, assuming we host. maybe we will get a double host again, that would be nice. anyways, take care, catch you later. tell lauren to tell the girls I said hi, and tell nicki to email me back!
