USA U19 girls coached by Jamie are in the World Championship finals vs. Turkey at 2 Central today. They've blasted through to the finals with a perfect record in the tournament.

Aside from Meuth and Logan that's a very very young team as well! Interested to see if Cos-Okpalla can emerge into a force in the middle and curious to see how a freshman leads this offense at the setter position!
Auburn did it last year with an even younger group! This group we have has great athleticism. Morrison is known for development, so I'm super curious to see where we start and finish the season.
Also just took a look at UT roster. How in the hell do they have 18 girls and we're at 13? I've been out of collegiate coaching a hot minute, but the math doesn't add up for me
They added a few pieces from the portal but I don't believe they will be nearly as dominant as they were last year! They'll still be good but not the clear favorite they were last year
I believe it also! I just hope the younger pieces mesh well! To go with the arms of Meuth and Lednicky, this could be a strong group! Our returns after serves last year were pretty poor. I hope our back line improves their receive and they have more finesse on their first touch! We played out of system so much! More fundamentals and smoother passing and we can be great!

I know it is going to be a tough season for us, but if this is a level of success in the SEC, then surely we can make a ruckus. Circling this match on Nov. 5th.
Exactly! I didn't recognize it at first, but now have some real concerns around roster management. LSU has 20, UT has 18, etc. Any ideas if there was a reason for this?
I am fine with a smaller roster as long as it is balanced both position wise and year wise
I dont know if it is on purpose or because they want to use the scholarships in a better manner but Morrison is used to smaller rosters with USA program and also limited use of DS players at the national level due to FIVA rules

But we are 1 or 2 injuries away from a questionable season. I don't mind if either, but if you look at history, this team is injury prone. Both setters, Ledinecky. Just losing Ledinecky last season was a lot to attempt to overcome.
Volleyball is only a 12 scholarship maximum sport, although I think some teams still have some extra Covid year players (Meuth might fall under this currently as well, I'm not sure what year she is on) but I think in the next few seasons you will see most rosters come back down in size. A lot of teams don't offer scholarships to DS/Libero players, or maybe only the starting Libero has a scholarship and the other DS's do not, so usually teams with well over 12 players will have 3-6 DS only players who are not on scholarship. A lot of the popular schools/teams may even have a few walk on Setters/OHs who don't ever see the court but help manage the load as practice players.

These Olympic level coaches want to coach so they tend to keep smaller rosters so they can really develop players. The lack of depth is more a function of the starting point of the roster and a late start in the Fall portal due to the timing of the coaching change. You need enough kids to run a competitive B side in practice. But even then you can supplement that with coaches or other players. The kids at the bottom of these 18 player rosters aren't helping the team.
