I'm going to the Spring match at Rice today and will post a report on what I see
I wonder what changes to the program we will have with the new AD. He certainly knows what a good volleyball program looks like but curious what he can do to elevate us to the level we should be at. I think we are on the right trajectory but we need to aim pretty high.
I think to see the true results of this coaching staff we have to have to 2025 class get on campus intact. We could use another pin hitter IMO for 2024

We lost to Rice in 4 very close sets. We really should've won the last set and blew it at the end and it should've gone 5.
But, we only had 9 suited out healthy players and Rice had 12 players. No Lednicky who was in a boot. We have a new setter in Waak from Katy/LSU snd there were a few miss connections in the middle which is to be expected but she looked good overall and got us a lot of points on serve. A new OH -#8 not sure who she is because not on the roster but she has some great potential and powerful arm. Our really tall RS Lopuya really picked up steam and was getting a lot more kills as the match went a long. I noticed she started eating/drinking on the bench in the 4th set and wondering if maybe it was because sun was down for Ramendan?
We moved around hitters a lot for different lineups each game and even played #1 Cos-Okpalia on the outside and she didn't look bad over there but her blocking in the middle is amazing. Liked our new MB #14 Brown a lot who looked good. #5 Guinn greatly struggled to get kills and was very high error.

I also went to the A&M-Rice scrimmage on Friday. Agree with agballer's observations, but will add a few others:
- Guinn was playing RS most of the scrimmage.
- #8 was Hellmuth, although the website's roster lists her as #4. She looked very good at OH and played 6 rotations most of the time.
- In addition to Lednicky being out, Manning also did not play. Waak was the sole setter and obviously ran a 5-1. Looked solid in spite of some timing issues and miscommunications. Those looked like typical issues between a setter and hitter getting used to each other.
At LSC this past weekend. Saw Coach Morrison several times and each time was with a Skyline team (not sure which cities but I think Houston and Dallas). I'll take all the skyline players we can get but hopefully he can make inroads with the other top clubs. So much talent in Texas!
Schedules are starting to come out. I am pretty sure that we play Texas at home on Sept 27th which Morrison alluded to in an interview.
Bird Kuhn just won the first Pro Volleyball championship with her Omaha team.
Added a 6'3 Outside Hitter for this upcoming season in Taylor Humphrey out of Rutgers! She had 239 kills this past season and 259 the year before on a horrible Rutgers team who's won 4 conference games the past two years! Maybe the elevated play here will bring up her game a little!! Great piece added and always great to have another pin!

I get that travel would be a struggle for visiting teams on football weekends, but not once do we have an opportunity to see a football and volleyball match in one weekend either in College Station or away. And only one opportunity to see both volleyball and soccer together in a weekend. Maybe there's a non-conference home game that will pop up in September.
Still have non conference and our tourney is usually the first or second weekend of Sept but yes that is somewhat surprising although maybe a conscious effort by SEC to do so? Would have to see others schedules compared to football which maybe too much digging for me
Friday Sept. 6th is a home game against Texas State and that's a home football game weekend.

Last year it was around the 10th of July. May be a little earlier this year since some sports are starting earlier.

Started around the 3rd. We got 4 for next year to see what my girls think about it.

If you can say a girl gets on average 25 digs per match then I dont know what to tell you IT ISNT POSSIBLE

I don't think it's impossible. She could be the best person on a middling team. Her film indicates she's a very solid libero. So, I bet she does get a ton of touches in the back row.
Stats are subjective to those who keep them. My honest guess is they had someone that wasn't educated on what a dig actually is so it's hard to decipher a pass vs a stat earning dig. Thats what happens when you have non volleyball coaches keeping your stats.

You think someone can AVERAGE 25 digs per match? and to get that average based upon per set means that each match only went three sets if four sets they AVERAGED 32-33 or nearly 40 if a five setterAg4eva95 said:

Impossible as an average, for a match or two sure but not for a season
I have no doubt she can play or she wouldnt be recruited by a D1 program in a major conference but this is not a real stat that is possible
someone pull up one of her school matches and see what they are counting.

I think you are misunderstanding what I am saying. I am doubting she actually averaged those because of the people that actually kept her stats. Someone ok that staff doesn't know what a dig is, resulting in blown up stats……
It's not impossible for someone to average 8 digs. Hell, if girls that play D1 college volleyball can average 6 digs per set for an entire season, why can a stud from a below average high school team average 8…..
