We're up to 7th in the world rankings. Best position ever. Can we contend in the '07 - 1 world cup? We play another great game on Sunday against Poland on espn2.

And a little off topic....does anyone that follows US soccer know why we turned down an invite to the Copa America tourney?

I'd imagine it was because all our American based players are currently in season with MLS, and all our European based players need a break before their season starts in August. So we really couldn't put a good squad together.

Did we really turn down an invite to Copa America? I would put together as good as a team as possible (use the guys on our younger national teams)and go play just to get them the world class experience. Brasil is doing that...they are resting Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, and Roberto Carlos.

Man, I'd hate for the U.S. to turn that invite down. Like Randy said, I'm sure some younger players would've loved the experience.

It's nice that the US is 7th but it doesn't really mean anything except during seeding in the World Cup. Personally I don't see where they come up with the rankings anyway. I love the US team but there is no way they are 7th best in the world.

If by sending younger players you mean players like Spector, Szetela and Simek from the U-20 team, I would have to think that would do more harm than good. They would have little chance of being competitive and I'm sure having bags of urine thrown at them would compound matters.
