Track & Field Report: Aggies prepare for first away meet at Arkansas
After back-to-back home meets at the Fasken Indoor Track, Texas A&M will head to Fayetteville for the Razorback Invitational. Head coach Pat Henry joined Monday's edition of TexAgs Radio to look back on the past two meets and what is ahead for the Aggies.
Key notes from Pat Henry interview
- We were just saying it's nice to have an indoor facility. We would have been outside last year. You can't miss training days. You do what you have to do.
- During our first two meets, we had great institutions. They aren't big meets, but they have been good. Each one has been a step up. This meet this weekend is a bigger meet.
- Lamara Distin had the best opener she has ever had. I have never had someone open with 6-foot-4.
- Heather Abadie is being Heather. This weekend should be good competition for her.
- Joniar Thomas is a really good long jumper. She is a multi-eventer. That's a good jump for a multi-athlete. At the regional meet, they made a mistake. They missed one of the jumps. She should have qualified.
- Eric Casarez ran well. Got out and took the lead. He never gave it up. Now, he is sick today.
- Connor Schulman looks good. He is a mature athlete. He has worked very hard to get where he is.
- Jack Johnston is coming. He is a competitor. It will be fun to see what he does.
- It's a rehearsal. This weekend's meet is better competition. Every competition gets your brain more focused. Sport is about rhythm and getting in that. Saturday is the competition. Sunday is an off day NCAA-wise, but you can't sleep too much or not hydrate enough.
- Come out and watch the meet next week. It's the dedication of the facility. The Charlie Thomas Invitational will take place at the new Fasken Indoor Track & Field on Feb. 2-3.
