Prelims here are definitely an "act like you've been here before" race, the ones straining to win their heat in the first round are not the ones thinking about medals in paris
I remember when Athing refused to lose any heat at any race. And then won gold at the Olympics. Maybe this is the new Athing.

Agreed, rather than try to lead from the front most of the race, her current approach seems to be to sit on the shoulder of the leader and go to her arms and push past them in the last 150m or so.
Maybe we wait until the after the finals to criticize the strategy? While I much preferred the "kick everyone's ass" strategy and mentality, holding back for the semis and finals is certainly more pragmatic. Maybe it will help her set a PR in the finals.
I'm skeptical that her new coach's philosophy of never racing in meets is optimal, but I'm willing to let it play out before being overly critical.

Bummed Roger's didn't advance in the 5k
Jacob Wooten with a great first day to qualify for the finals in pole vault. He was probably 5th ish coming in with the top 3 guys being a good amount ahead of the rest of the field. But one of those 3 (KC Lightfoot current American record holder) went out early. I would say there are 2 favorites to make the team and Jacob is with a tight group of 3ish more competing for that last spot
Sam's mom & I like the way you think, we would prefer him to go out every time & leave no doubt, but we trust the "Ereng effect ".
Just have a feeling we will be more stressed next week than he will....
