What is your opinion on what matters most at the Olympics?

I don't like how we usually treat all medals the same and just do a medal count. Getting a gold is obviously better than a silver or bronze. On the flip side, I think a country that gets 10 silvers probably had a better Olympics than one who only got a single gold and nothing else. Short of some sort of scoring system (5 points for gold, 3 for silver, 1 for bronze, or something like that), though, I go with Gold Medal count.

I've always been curious if people in China actually care about winning in badminton and synchronized swimming. Is it just that these sports aren't popular in the US, but are popular in other countries? Or do people in China snicker when someone tells them they are a competitive rhythmic gymnast?

I come from the Mark Spitz era. We are supposed to win them all.

It's kind of funny the East German women's dark thick brow of yore became a thing for today's kids.

We want both. We win the most medals every time these days due to the volume of athletes we send to the games.

We will end up with both - most total and gold

Swimming and T&F are split up week 1 and 2 mostly. We dominate both. But that spread out our total.

Aussies are front heavy because of swimming
Chinese are front heavy because of things like table tennis, badminton, gymnastics and some swimming
France has been front heavy too with Judo, Fencing and swimming

China has one medal so far in T&F and it was "race walking". We have 9 so far. Game over.
