No doubt she's unbelievably amazing at what she does.
But I do miss the more "graceful" gymnastics of years past. Now it's all about power. Just a personal preference, but I prefer more grace & artistry. 1996 Atlanta Olympic team comes to mind. Shannon Miller and Dominique & Dominique. I loved watching their routines and they're so memorable.
And for the love of God, please stop with the wolf turn. It's AWFUL to look at.

One of the great things about the USA is we embrace the comeback. She's had a great comeback, and I'm happy to see her accomplishments this Olympics…

Yeah, who would have thought that being abandoned by your parents and sexually assaulted by your coaches and having your other coaches cover it up while your country's Olympic Committee did nothing would cause mental problems?

That and meds she was on were banned in Japan so she was off meds at the same time….
I didn't necessarily want to the artistic side take over again, but I would like to see people do clean routines again. As someone who only watches gymnastics once every for years, I would rather see someone perform a (slightly) less difficult routine and stick it, than try sometime really difficult and have a huge step back and still win.
It's not just gymnastics going this route, though. It seems like of these judged sports are favoring difficulty over perfection.

You could change the rules to make them wear Marvel costumes followed by a round of karaoke at the end, and it wouldn't have affected the vault results for gold and silver. They were just that much better.

I'm probably not as turned off by the shift in focus, also don't remember much about Atlanta nor was 7-year old paying attention to gymnastics, but I agree about the wolf turn.AJ02 said:

Its like a party trick you show off at the end of practice that they're now incorporating into competition. The balance checks and arm waving certainly aren't "artistic."
